I don’t get the appeal of parades focused watching rows of decorated vehicles from the sidelines compared to marches where everyone just walks as a crowd, with just enough loudspeaker vehicles to provide music, speeches and coordination.

It’s because it’s a hollow, diluted version of an actual protest march, with no actual political action associated with it. It’s a centrist/status-quo friendly way of queer expression. It’s taking the original message “We DEMAND freedom, or we riot” and settling it down to “hey we exist too!”.

Essentially, it’s the ongoing capitalist capture of queerness.

Frankly it should be a pride PROTEST every year until equality is achieved. Fuck this “sanitisation” and corporate friendly display of numbers.

plus when there’s a marching crowd you get to walk on roads while telling traffic to suck their thumbs, that’s my favourite part

Once a year Berlin holds a massive bike demonstration/event where we take over many streets, including the autobahn, and converge on the center. Sadly I either hear about it to late or don’t have time that day. :(

not an uncommon sentiment against rainbow washing. some of the big municipal parades are catching on to this, at least a few near me have started limiting corporate involvement

i just want to see cute/hot gay people and their friends or community involvement groups!
