I know we’re supposed to just chuckle at the idea that a child is a psychopath, but there are a few legitimate holes with the meme:
The phone lines went down at the very beginning of the film from the snow storm that took a couple of days to fix.
Marv was doing recon in the beginning disguised as a cop and Kevin recognized him when he was being followed in the van.
Then the cops actually show up for a wellness check, but he doesn’t know they are real and is terrified that the burglars are coming back to break in.
Kevin tries numerous harmless, inventive ways of scaring them off first, like the big party or the movie dialogue with the firecrackers, but the burglars are so stupid and persistent, they FAFO by still entering the home, where he never kills either of them, but only then do they get hurt.
It may not be a flawless film, but this gaping plot hole that the meme describes isn’t quite accurate.
He doesn’t kill them because it is a movie, some of the “traps” were very deadly…
Ah, a fellow person of culture!
Also in the beginning he wishes he would wake up and his whole family would be gone. He wakes up and thinks his wish came true. He tells “Santa” later in that he wishes they would come back.
I distinctly remember the Wet Bandits cutting the phone line.
And didn’t one of them show up at the house at the beginning dressed as a police officer? For all Kevin knew the police were in on it!
Kevin thought the police were violent thieves. Home Alone was accidentally based.

And Kevin thought the police were after him when he stole that toothbrush from the store.
Yep. The meme seems to be created by someone who has a vague recollection of the movie, with assumptions of it being a lot simpler. There are a ton if plot holes in the movie, but this is not one of them.
It was the wind storm that also knocked out the power.
How did he order pizza then, hmmmmm?!
Edit: I’m learning that it’s possible that the tree knocked out the long distance wires, but left local calls still connected and functional. 911 would still work, but as others pointed out maybe he wasn’t trusting the cops at the moment.
Though he does call the cops on the wet bandits at the end? Maybe he valued his safety less than he loved being alone.
Edit2: though his parents are able to leave answering machine messages on all the neighbors’ machines, so there goes that theory
That’s not really how phone lines work, unless the central office had its own issues. When you have a POTS (plain old telephone service) line at your house, that two-wire pair runs directly back to the central office where it gets switched to local, long distance, etc. So if you have dial tone, you’re connected.
Kevin also enjoys a good western—he might have a healthy skepticism concerning law enforcement.
This movie is clearly Kevin’s side of the story. He likely made that part up. This was sport to him.
How did he see the house from the outside?
This isn’t Inception bro
Sorta like how breaking bad could have been 1 episode if it was set in Canada
Exactly, because Kevin couldn’t actually call the police (phone lines were down) and Walter’s real problem was never the money :)
Why?
Socialized Health Care
Tbf Walter White already could have circumvented the entire show had he just sucked up his pride and accepted the money from his
sister in lawold work partners.
The police did come and check the house out days prior, and deemed it a false alarm.
Go on and call the Chicago PD. See how safe you feel. Go on we’ll wait.
My go to line in social situations is: “Some say the most dangerous game is the hunting of man. I think that it’s X”
Pouring coffee, stacking ceramic mugs, punching fascists, liking an unpopular musician - it all pans out the same.
