Everytime I want a distro that just works I just roll with Linux Mint.
Being one of the most popular distro if something goes wrong is really easy to find how to fix it .
I’ve usually run linux until I got sick of having problems with it and then install windows… until I got sick of having problems with it and then switch to linux again.
There is no OS without issues. In my experience, that may not be the same as others, linux problems tend to be more frequent, smaller and easier to fix. While windows problems tend to be less frequent but more problematic and harder to fix (I’m looking at you windows update which destroyed all my OS).
But if you are going to use linux you are going to need to tweak some things. The tinkering to make it all work is easy as the community forums have all the answers (btw windows support forums are the WORST, 99% of proposed solutions are useless).
For the sake of lemmy civility and prosperity I just didn’t want to start an argument.
Let’s just say I did read the whole article before posting and shouldn’t be assumed otherwise unless there was something incorrect being said, which was imposible due the nature of the comment itself.

Debian.
Stable, well documented, easy to install. I do not need anything else right now.
I use Spanish QWERTY layout and it’s… weird for coding.
I’m used to it from my whole life so that’s what I use but sometimes brackets or special symbols are weird.
I’ve always wanted to change to use US-International layout. So I can keep ñ and áéíóú, and also have easy access to coding symbols. But I have never got around it.
Anyhow I still think that whoever designed ISO layouts messed up. We should use US international layout. That’s my two cents.
I know some schools in my country use their own linux distribution on pair with windows. And my organization has also their own linux distribution but it is barely used really. I dont know anyone who uses it, but I do know it exists.
There’s anothee way to keep having access to software no matter what companies do.
I have the generic steam crack well saved in my computer in case the decide to pull the plug.
I tend to buy stuff I’ve already pirated.
I have games bought with 0 hours played because I already played them with my pirate hat.
When you are a pirate you have a different mindset. You get to really choose who do you want to give your money to, and you tend to chose people who really deserve it.
I use thunderbird, though it really feels like it has terrible performance for me. Feels like a really heavy program for just an email client.
Still better than having ads on your client.
Sometimes they are more convenient, than cd ls mv cp everything, when you don’t have access to a file explorer.
Specially if you are working with a server via ssh, or some machine without any Desktop Environment installed.
I think youtube ads are served by the same dns as the content, so pi hole shouldn’t block youtube ads at all.
They probably are just asking for a loan right now and need to justify that they are going to increase profits.
I genuinely tried to look for a legit way to make it an option for paying in a small online store without having to depend on paypal or a bank gateway.
Well transaction fees for any big coin are like many dollars per transaction. It’s ridiculous. For smaller transaction fees you have to go to smaller coins that can disappear or lose half their value one day to the next.
And still, if we forget thar people wouls need to pay like a 14€ fee for 1€ transaction. They still have to go to a exange to change their money, and then I have to change it back, because very little things can be bought with crypto, less with cryptos that doesn’t have ridiculous transaction fees.
Did I mention than transaction are not instantaneous either? Unless you pay big transaction fee or use some obscure coin that no one uses.
At the end, I ended up with paypal. I really wanted a way to be “independent” of big companies for transaction. But crypto is completely ruined (if it was ever functional that I doubt it). It’s not a coin, they are just speculation and bets. With cybercrime and drug dealing being the only “real” uses it has.
I basically use it to ssh to my server.
What smartphone brand is safe to buy nowadays? It feels like every single one is terrible and anti-user.
So… About 2010? When Android phones became widespread.
I really wish we had a service like this on Europe.
I know they ship to Europe. But shipping costs are prohibitive for small buys.
