There aren’t really that many deadly poisonous mushrooms in North America considering how many species we have, most we just don’t know. This probably won’t get you high either, haha.

I can hunt. Fish. Trap. Tan hides. But fungi scares me.

Either you get a tasty treat. Or you get violently high approaching ego-death. Or you die horribly.

I love mushrooms. But I don’t have the knowledge to hunt them.

It’s pretty simple to gain the knowledge, learn an edible species, learn the lookalikes, and maybe take them to a local mycology club and ask for an ID confirmation the first few times to make sure.

If you avoid little brown mushrooms and pure white mushrooms, know what a deathcap looks like, and don’t spend years eating Paxillus involutus without ever looking it up, then you’re not going to end up eating any deadly or psychedelic species.

Most of the mushrooms are actually edible, but taste bad. Only a handful are worth the trouble of positively identifying for their gourmet appeal, but it’s cool to learn about all of them.
