Yes. He is now directly and mockingly violating the constitution and an explicit Supreme Court order. It is now a completely naked constitutional crisis for all the public to see.

Reasonable people have seen it happening since long before today, but today marks a shift from a more covert assault to an open one, and that is noteworthy.

Eta: I don’t mean they were really covert before, either, to be clear. They dropped any remaining veil of plausible deniability today though. And then also let it slip on recording that the intent is to deprive US citizens of due process and ship “terrorists” (read: undesirables) to El Salvador, too. Today is a historic day, sadly.

You are correct. He was defying injunctions before. That’s only a contempt of court charge. There are rulings that he is defying.

He’s actually created two constitutional crises today. They refused to admit the AP into the Oval Office for the press conference with Bukele.

Well now the President and his government are openly saying that they will kidnap anyone they don’t like off the street, or out of their homes or schools, and disappear them to a foreign prison where they may be tortured, enslaved, and/or killed, without any justification, evidence, accusation or due process. Any American, or anyone else in the USA, can be going about their daily business and the cops can kidnap you and traffick you that same day into a lifetime of torture in a foreign dictatorship famous for human rights abuses, and no one in the world can help you.

All these years we’ve had to put up with Americans going on about needing guns to protect themselves from tyranny and the importance of free speech, and when an actual tyrannical dictator starts disappearing people for their political views, their race or (it’s coming) their gender identity or sexual orientation, Americans do nothing to stop it. In fact, many of the “guns and free speech” crowd just love it. Until the police come for them.

More than 1.4% of the US population (5 million people) protested on the same day nationwide a few days ago. It’s not nothing. It gives me some hope. I’m a non-passing trans woman and am well aware of the coming danger.

It is an encouraging start and I don’t mean to diminish the value of it. I hope you get through this time safely and without things getting too unpleasant for you.

The first law he broke, the first lie he told. It all went downhill (for us) from there.

    It’s about Kilmar Ábrego García

Whom Stephen Miller says he was not mistakenly taken to El Salvador

“He was not mistakenly sent to El Salvador,” Miller said, pushing back on the Justice Department’s repeated assertions in numerous court filings that Garcia was sent to a notorious Salvadoran prison last month because of “an administrative error.”

“This was the right person sent to the right place,” Miller said, despite the Supreme Court’s criticism of the removal in a ruling last week.

And the El Salvadorian president won’t release him

Shit is beyond fucked up. This is literally how wars start.

I’m finding myself genuinely hoping for a military coup at this point, because I’d trust almost any Admiral or General in the armed forces a damn sight more than I’d trust any of these fucking psychotic fascists. What the actual fuck is this timeline.

Yup. Americans. This is the day you find out that in the future this’ll happen to you if you complain about Trump in too public a way or in front of the wrong person. Who does trump hate more than immigrants? People who disagree with him.

Please remind the Supreme Court that if they’ve abdicated their power, they have no power left.

Nothing should spur a red judge into action like the loss of power.

Too bad they were appointed to those positions specifically to abdicate power.

If American protesters were smart they would arrest the president of El Salvador and use him as collateral for a prisoner swap.

So if you know you are going to get disappeared without a trial, then it seems logical to resist ICE capture by all means available. Given the high rate of gun ownership in the US, I am truly surprised we aren’t hearing about gunfights and standoffs and hero ICE people being killed by those allegedly already violence predisposed alleged gang members they are rounding up.

      1. Because, even in a world where you can buy assault rifles at the mall, it is generally only the upper middle class who are able to afford to arm themselves
      2. The idea of “Everywhere I go it is high noon at the o-k corral and I need to be ready to quickdraw on a toddler at a moment’s notice” is a decidedly White American mentality
      3. People are generally either getting rounded up at border control (where you can’t have a gun because other countries are sane), at work during a raid, or getting head bagged off the street. None of which are situations where pulling your EDC glock with one in the chamber is going to do much because they have body armor and assault rifles

And another one gone and another one gone,

      Another red line is crossed,

Hey, he’s gonna cross you too!

      Another red line is crossed…
