I remember years ago reading about some test where participants lived in a house next to a phone mast. For the first week the phone mast was off, then the next week they turned it on. In the second week a bunch of people complained about getting sick and one person even had to leave. Then it turned out they’d never actually turned it on, I guess to prove that these people were idiots.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Artsy darling Remedy Entertainment has a new CEO - a former EA exec and sports betting platform president - who is there to "accelerate growth"
2·21 days agoGotta admit, I don’t really play many Remedy games. While the settings and art may be good the gameplay is always kinda boring. I remember when Alan Wake was being developed and there was an insane amount of hype around it but when it came out it was just kind of boring to play. I haven’t finished it to this day. I heard Alan Wake 2 is really good but I just wasn’t going to play it without finishing the first one

14·23 days agoI think this is fine. If you get hit and killed by a distracted driver it may not be your fault but you’re still dead.
Every 3 months here, but I comment more than I did on Reddit. I remember reading a meme about how there’s no point commenting on a post that’s got more than 100 comments already and realised how true it was.
For someone coming from Mac you might find Pop OS more familiar.

1·2 months agoI’m 99% sure this’ll happen during his term but I’m not sure it’ll happen right now. I’ll bet they’re positioning themselves to be able to react faster next time there’s a major protest. I don’t think it’ll be long.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Ignoring the internet bill itself, how many paid online services do you have?
1·2 months agoDisney Plus, VPN, OneDrive, NextCloud (to eventually replace OneDrive). I use Spotify and Amazon Prime through a family account.
In the UK women can be called birds but it’s considered a bit tasteless nowadays.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do people in your country leave for Santa/st Nicolas/Christmas gnome etc?
13·2 months agoMilk and cookies seem bizarre, there’s nothing Christmassy about that. You need to put your foot down there.
We’re also UK and we just left out a mince pie, a chocolate biscuit that my daughter wanted to give him, a carrot, and some whisky which Santa asked for when we went to see him. We let our daughter pour the whisky and it was quite a generous serving. My wife said “That’s quite a lot, he’s going to be tipsy” and my daughter said “It’s only half a glass mummy”. I just poured it back into the bottle.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What little things do you do each day that are your small ways of sticking it to the man?
26·3 months agoReject cookies.
My sister-in-law let her 10 year old daughter play it with zero supervision. When we found out we told her she should be watching what her daughter’s doing so she went in to check and found the kid talking to some grown man from Azerbaijan.
I sort the reviews by recent on the assumption that when these companies pay for fake reviews they sort of come all at once and the recent reviews will be humans who’re actually reviewing it since then.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do I deal with someone who's been shitting in front of my house?
6·3 months agoLike everyone else has said, put some cameras out to confirm it’s a human (it’s probably not). If it is a human you may recognise them, and if it’s a cat or something there’s probably some kind of deterrent you can buy.
Bear in mind local laws. Where I live filming people on the public street is a grey area legally, using a hidden camera to do it would probably be considered illegal. Not saying don’t do it, just don’t try and submit it to the police. If it’s a person tell the police you saw them doing it from the window or whatever.

Games@lemmy.world•Palworld dev isn’t impressed by "so-called" AAA, prefers indies since they "include the kind of systems you can’t find in other games"English
70·3 months agoI think this is pretty normal as you grow up. You get kind of bored of playing games that use the same gameplay mechanisms and you just look for a change. Even if the mechanisms in these indie games aren’t as good, just being different makes the game more interesting.
Nowadays I’d much rather play a short indie games that a big budget game.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel sad about the fact that you'll probably die within 100 years (or less) and you (well... that's most of us tbh) can't do much to leave a significant positive legacy?
