Just because it’s safe doesn’t mean it’s the best we have right now.

• It’s massively expensive to set up
• It’s massively expensive to decommission at end of life
• Almost half of the fuel you need to run them comes from a country dangerously close to Russia. (This one is slightly less of a thing now that Russia has bogged itself down in Ukraine)
• It takes a long time to set up.
• It has an image problem.

A combination of solar, wind, wave, tidal, more traditional hydro and geothermal (most of the cost with this is digging the holes. We’ve got a lot of deep old mines that can be repurposed) can easily be built to over capacity and or alongside adequate storage is the best solution in the here and now.

Tipping is immoral as it allows companies to underpay. Tipping is anti free market as companies should be competing for staff through their remuneration packages.

The thing I’ve never understood about tipping culture in general and especially the American culture around it is why some low paid staff get it and some don’t.

Why do you tip your food delivery driver and not the guy delivering your Amazon package?

Why do you tip your wait staff, but not your supermarket checkout assistant?

It’s double what’s standard to tip for good service.

Tipping is just another way for the corporations to reduce the overhead by having the customer pay the wages of the employee directly, reducing both the budget for salaries and also the reducing ancillary expenses like unemployment insurance and employer wage withholding, occupational privilege tax, etc.

It also makes these jobs falsely competitive against other “unskilled” jobs where tipping isn’t the norm.

I thought yanks were all for the free market, tipping is the oppositeness to this as it negates the free market whereby companies complete with wages and benefits for staff.

So, you’re supporting the unfair system.

Even with an insane 20% tip I don’t think you’ve worked it out right. A 20% tip on the food (because why would you tip on a service charge??) comes to 4.09

The post says you “you drive it” while you could say that for a push along it seems odd wording.

Before they had electric, that was the only type. It’s not fancy.

True that they did exist in the past, however unless you’ve got an old one they’re around twice the price of electric and more expensive to run. But, more than that, it points to you having enough garden to need petrol.

Look at Mr rich pants here, needing a ride on petrol mower. Most people round my way have small push along electric mowers.

That’s where the high level of communication and society comes in. Not every individual needs to be great at all of it.

We really do break the balance of the game. Aimed accuracy of throwing things, high level detailed communication and social interaction, that same vocal range means we can imitate animal sounds to trick them into running off cliffs, can literally run animals to death, very high level intelligence allowing planning and tool use.

One or two of these would make us an op apex predator.

You will work in the NHS or the firefighters and so on, so you will certainly engage with community members of all ages and from all wakes of life. For a year of mandatory service that everybody is meant to complete, 18 is arguably the best time to do it.

But anyone who’s not 18 will be denied that “opportunity”.

When you walk on a public road past a hospital do you think to yourself “they stole my money to build this”? You have rights and duties as a citizen. Your service benefits the community as a whole.

Exactly, I already give over a portion of my labour time via taxes to help society. Forcing people to do 25 days extra unpaid work is either slavery or a huge one off tax on 18 year olds.

There’s also no exceptions. So you’ve already got a job that requires you to do weekends? Touch shit. So you’ve got staff shortages. Already work for the fire service or police etc. Touch shit. You’ve got to go pick litter up for 25 days.
