This is more likely a coverage issue than Walmart illegally blocking wireless signals (per to FCC regulations).

Report the coverage issue to Verizon and your local Walmart. Both of which will want to increase coverage of where people are gathering. This is because if bad coverage areas are in places where people gather this will cause affected people to switch services or stop going to those gathering areas if there’s alternatives.

You’re right. Had to dig into my memory for this one and fact check myself.

IRC, BBS, and most forums (of the era) used PM or SP. MUCKs and a few other tools used Whisper. ICQ introduced “IM me”. Part of me remebers using the term “DM” for IRC messages, but I used IRC fairly regularly well into the 2010s.

However, the forum I spent a ton of my younger years on used “Direct Messages” which has likely polluted my memory. Since it was a technology related forum, that was probabaly a customization from the operator to distance everyone from the idea of “private” since everything was clear-text and unencrypted back then. That or I’m confusing “IM me” from the ICQ/AIM/MSN days.

Point being, nobody thought “PM” meant secure and not visible to the server operators back then. It just meant that only you, the recipient, server operators, and 1337 h4xx0rz could see your messages.

What a trip down edited memory lane that was. Thanks for fact checking me.

Umm… People have been using the phrase “Direct message (DM) me” since forever in the game and online comms world. Private message wasn’t a concept until after DMs were later encrypted. And we always knew, that if we didn’t control the servers, even encrypted, those messages were subject the server operators.

Your logic is giving me the impression that you’re younger and didn’t go through these experiences.

This is some serious r/iamverysmart over simplicity. Nothing I said was shame mate.

I like living without stinking to high hell, having teeth that aren’t rotting and infected, and not being covered in rashes and fungal growth because I am maintaining personal hygiene.

I love having friends. They bring me so much joy, happiness, shared interests, and introducing me to activities I enjoy.

Listening and not being constantly stuck in my mind allows me to build my knowledge and wisdom instead of some neckbeard elitist iamverysmart intern hellion.

I don’t mask anymore, but I’m also not going to be some shitstain that believes they’re the next “great” just because I am not nerutypical and have a false belief that the greats are-just-like-me because I’m neurodivergent.

  • Some of that “weak stuff” includes things like:

    • Basic Hygine.
    • Maintain relationships you care about but struggle with.
    • Focusing on a conversation that is interesting or has valuable information you need but drift off after 30 seconds because you notice something in the background, a misplaced hair on their face, or your brain over corrects and you get stuck in the “must focus” internal mantra.
    • Remembering to eat instead of hyper focusing on a project and time blindness kicks in and it 14 hours later.
    • So-man-other-things.

ADHD is a fucking struggle mate. And your advice is oblivious to the realities of the struggles and life.

This is probabaly largely due to the dosage.

Back in the 70s & 80s kids were, on-average, given 30mg instant release of Ritalin a day to start. These days they’ve cut that starting dose down to 5mg 2x a day for IR and the long acting is 10-20 once a day depending on the child’s weight.

Dosage back then was also determined by severity of “undesired” symptoms instead of other factors like body mass and how well a lower starting dose is performing.

ADHD is the worst at this.

A disorder that makes it hard to have cognitive function & execution has you required to do the following:

    1. Remember that you have the disorder.
    2. Remember that you can get treatment for it.
    3. Find a doctor/NP that specializes in ADHD or cognitive disorders.
    4. Schedule an appointment.
    5. Go to the appointment and go through the rigmarole of getting a new RX.
    6. (Current Market) Call around to pharmacies to find one that has your RX in stock and hope your medical insurance doesn’t reject it or prescribe you something else because you don’t have patient history with just Adderall yet and have to repeat this step because this pharmacy only had the other RX available.
    7. Go pick up your RX.
    8. Repeat 4-8 monthly since ADHD meds are tightly regulated and you can only get a 30-day supply without auto-refills.

Yeah… We’re completely setup for success.

  • What meds, instant/extended release, and what dosage?

I’m on Adderall XR 15mg and after an initial “holy fuck” phase for a couple weeks it’s tapered off into a nice rhythm. Shit isn’t perfect, but I’m able to get up and get shit done. However, I also have the “I’m not hungry because of Adderall thing. And the thought of eating right now disgusts me.”. Which helps with the ADHD snack binges I’ve struggled with. So I’ll take that over the upset/queasy stomach feeling I had with a non-stimulant med I took for a few months a couple years back

If I wind up skipping a day I’m usually fine and don’t feel any negative impacts. However, I also drink a shit ton of coffee (typically black) so that could be helping curb any withdraw sysmtpoms.

    I’m glad I tried.

But I’m also doing so much better now and a 15mg Adderall xr does has been working great for 2 years now. I also found a job that follows my passions and I’ve been able to channel the hyper focus and drive to build and keep a schedule for work. The last step is to reintegrate my fitness hobby (cycling) back into my life and I’ll be back to where I was before some asshole manager from my previous job caused a mild panic attack in me and things broke down.

Strattera gave me stomach issues for 3 months straight and didn’t do shit for my ADHD symptoms. Finally went back to stims afterwards. At least with stims I either forget to eat or am disgusted by the thought of eating, but if I do eat, my stomach doesn’t feel terrible.

  • Feedback:

Format your README better. And don’t be a condescending jerk and say “wikipedia is your friend”. If you can’t explain what you’re doing here we’re going to question your solution. You don’t have to write a white paper, but enough to show you actually understand the concept enough to explain it in brief then you provide links to detailed refefences.

Comment your code. Meaningful names are great, but you should be explaining complex concepts and algorithms within your code. This provides clear intent to people using and maintaining your code if implemented directly.

  • TBH, I never dug into rational wiki. However the timeline is fairly accurate from what I watched what happened to my friends both in the game industry and my former friends that were gamers (hint, i worked in games when this shit was unfolding).

Unfortunately, no other “timeline” source exists, with Wikipedia starting its paragraphs of history with Zoe Quinn creating Depression Quest, and many many other articles starting there as well. Some people like to attribute a slightly earlier event of a handful of journalists critiquing gamers over their reactions to the Mass Effect 3 ending, but that doesn’t really fit with how quickly things snowballed after “The Zoe Post”.

  • Gamergate started with “The Zoe Post”, not the removal of jailbait.

“The Zoe Post” is a hit piece from an Ex-boyfriend of game developer Zoe Quinn that alleged that she slept with a notable game reviewer to get positive reviews for her game. Said reviewer never actually reviewed her game.

Please don’t re-write the history of these events. Especially since jailbait had been removed for around a year when “The Zoe Post” dropped.
