You make a fair point - there are plenty of free apps for Lemmy with no ads or purchases at all. For me personally, I use Sync (and paid for no ads) because I used it for years on Reddit and struggled to find a Lemmy app that worked/looked exactly how I wanted.

The price is on the high end, imo, but I don’t consider it unreasonable given that I would’ve wanted to donate to the creator of whatever app I settled in anyway in order to support their work. The only difference to me is that this was a one-time upfront payment rather than a monthly donation on Patreon.

  • Cata Classic is a fairly divisive topic in the community, mostly because of the split views of the expansion itself. There’s no guarantee we’ll get one at this point, so if you want to see the content now I’d recommend playing it in retail.

That said, you’ll reach level 60 in retail long before you finish Cata (which is combined with the Vanilla zones in Chromie Time). You could always freeze your level if you really wanted to play through it all without one-shotting everything once you outlevel it, I just wanted to bring it to your attention. Leveling is very quick nowadays.

  • This was so much fun! All of the races were enjoyable, and it was great to see some of the older zones I haven’t been to in a while.

I think my only complaint is that the event doesn’t award enough of the Riders of Azeroth badges to purchase all of the cosmetics provided (you can get up to 154 but need 240 to buy everything). Assuming they continue to add new cosmetics when the other continents’ races arrive, the only way to get all of the cosmetics is to do the races again on an alt.

  • Explorer (the lowest level) and adventurer (the next lowest level) gear can come from world quests, rares, and other outdoor activities. These same activities can give you whelping and drake crest fragments, which you can then turn into the associated crests to use to upgrade your gear. You’ll also need flightstones, which are earned by doing just above anything (including the activities that reward the gear).

Wowhead has an item upgrade article that goes into more detail, but my strategy boils down to world quests and rares in Zaralek Cavern, the Researchers Under Fire event once a week, the Fyrakk assault event once a week, and Soridormi’s time rift events as often as I can catch them. The events in particular will award veteran (and sometimes champion) level gear, and as long as I head to the upgrade vendor whenever I’m capped on flightstones, I can get characters outfitted in upgraded veteran gear - with some champion pieces mixed in - without too much trouble.

  • I’m able to hide posts I’ve read in Jerboa. On the main home feed screen, go to the menu in the upper left corner, then open Settings > [Account Name] Settings. Uncheck the box next to “Show read posts,” save your changes, and then refresh your home feed (or close the app and reopen). From what I can tell, this only works for posts you’ve actually opened; it won’t hide posts that you’ve simply scrolled past.
