Thanks. It would have been great if it made it through.
Wasn’t there supposed to be a ship with activists delivering aid from Greece or someplace a few months back? I wonder what became of that…
I hope this one makes it safely.
Yeah, and it sucks, but what can I do but move on :/
I understand what you’re saying and I did feel weird typing that since I know there must be a better alternative.
Something has to give, though. In late June I had to leave a place I rented for 19 years and I’m still stunned. Idk how much of the house’s value we paid in rent, but it was a lot. And it wasn’t even a large home, just a small cabin few people would wish to live in. But there was nothing stopping the landlord from kicking us to the curb.
enforce fair housing laws
Hopefully this includes not kicking out people who can still pay rent, just so the landlord can have themselves a weekend vacation cabin or higher-priced rental. And there should be a law forcing landlords to offer a rent-to-own option. Also, how about recalculating inflation to account for every expense that has gone up, so that the percentage a landlord can raise rent each year isn’t so damned high. While we’re being fair, of course :|
This country is in some ways completely hopeless. We need to stop giving Israel offensive weapons.
the envoys of Group of Seven nations, except for Japan, and the European Union said that if Israel was excluded from the invited countries, it would be difficult to send high-ranking officials to attend the ceremony.
Difficult != impossible. It’s like they think they can’t simply make a good choice. That kind of thinking keeps us in perpetual conflict.
This country (the US) is messed up. Watching the events in Gaza since last October only solidifies my opinion.
Before Biden got Covid this last time, I sent a message to the White House about the Israel/Gaza conflict. I was pefectly reasonable. Just this morning I finally got a reply. They mentioned the 1300 dead in Israel on Oct 7th, but no mention of the countless dead in Gaza since then. They talked about Hamas in the context of terrorism, but not the IDF. They talked about doing this or that to help Palestinians, but I know it’s all bullshit. I guess I was hoping my letter might actually reach people who matter, and possibly ignite a spark of conscience behind their dead eyes, but it seems there is no stopping the machine of death.
One of these days this country will have its own Hiroshima/Nagasaki moment, and I wonder: how many - if any - will watch the fall of the US without some measure of relief?
Governments worldwide will do anything to preserve their hegemony, except make living more tolerable.
Any potential movement against government overreach needs to counter every tactic they use. This means: communicating away from prying eyes and ears; using custom-made encryption when communicating remotely; full vetting of members, lest the movement be weakened; having a cell-based structure; knowing all the psychological tricks the govt. uses; etc.
(I can say these things freely because I am not a part of any movement ;) Additionally, I am not advocating violence.)
Reminder that the US military leaks PFAS out their ass:

and probabaly won’t be stopping any time soon:
It’s happening today, just like it’s been happening for years.
I remember watching the news closely during his presidency, to hear what he had to say about the Dakota Access Pipeline and ensuing protests, and there was nothing. So, some weeks back I searched to see if there was anything I missed, and I found one instance of a person asking him about it, and he gave only generic responses. Like it was new info to him. Blew me away, because to me it was the most important topic around that time along with what we were doing/going to do in Syria. I don’t have a high opinion of the man, nor the system that makes people like him a figurehead.
Thank you, I’ll check that out in greater detail later.
That’s okay. I’ll look in developer options, and in the meantime just be less inaccurate with my swipes ;)
It’s like they’re trying to get ahead of the narrative to deceive future historians… I just hope someone with the knowledge and means is making physical records of all this. Written in silica, or something.
