  • There a few many reasons why plastic bottles aren’t the best option for some medications and it comes down to the technical specifications of the drug as well as drug safety regulations.

Iirc, bottles aren’t optimal for formulations that result in friable (brittle) tablets, or those that need to be packaged in a reduced oxygen environment so that you can take out a tablet individually without exposing all the others to regular air, and so that they’re easy to handle and transport individually without exposure to contaminants in the environment up to the moment that they need to be ingested.

I encourage people to look deeper into pharmaceutical technology. It’s a fascinating field full of surprises.

  • I once went out with a friend to the clubs while I was on vacation at his house in the big city. He had gotten a new job as a director and I was a minimum wage scrub.

He wanted to go to the restroom, so he gave me his coat and some money to store our things away. I find out they were charging an extraordinary rent for what many others offer for free. I refused thinking it was abusively outrageous and went back with our stuff thinking we could just store them elsewhere at a reasonable price.

He was pissed. He told me off and decided our night out was over. He railed at me, made me cry, and basically told me our friendship was over. In my mind, I was only trying to protect him. I left the next day.

He called me back a couple of times months later but I had already moved on. I want to think that he regretted it, but he’s in the big leagues now and probably thinks less of me.

  • I once watched a documentary on all-natural child birth. I remember it made some believable points about how terrible epidurals were and how bath tubs and pools were better methods for birthing, all the while vilifying the medical establishment for not giving women choices.

I ate it all up thinking doctors were bastards for this until I finished my second semester at college for my medicine-adjacent degree. Oh, the shame!
