Has it been hotter than normal where you are? My sister has told me some plants in her garden are struggling this year because of the heat and putting out small crops. Your plant doesn’t look damaged though, the leaves all have good structure and color to them, and the hay over the soil is good heat protection. I agree with the other comment, it probably just needs some time.

It’s fledgling season in the northern hemisphere, and lots of fledglings don’t naturally have a ton of fear of humans. Adult birds might also ‘let’ people pet them after a window strike; they don’t always look like a bloody mess so people don’t always realize how injured they are.

The area and time I grew up in had zero non-English classes until high school! Literally just skipping the most beneficial periods of language learning. It was only required that we take 1 year of a foreign language to graduate, and that’s not really enough time to be proficient (or it wasn’t the way we were taught, anyway).

I’ve been casually learning Spanish for the past few years, and doing it on your own as an adult without paying for courses is hard, especially if your native language is in a different language family. I can definitely understand why people who emerge from the school system monolingual just stay that way.
