It sounds like he was questioning his own identity, like many children that age do when they are surrounded by influential and outspoken adults. I don’t see how or why that would be considered “weird”. Trying to turn it into an attack line actually seems quite homophobic.
He saw some fucking preacher on TV. He had no idea what gay was. He was questioning hell, not his sexuality. I don’t think most 8 or 9 year old boys are trying to figure out their sexual identity.
