Oxford Police agreed the video may be "troubling for many to watch," but described an incident leading up to the use of force that directly contradicts claims made in a viral TikTok.
The police will never win back the public trust until shit like this is followed by WAS FIRED IMMEDIATELY AND CHARGED WITH ASSAULT!
It’s the only way we can move forward. The cop can still have his time in court and win his job back if there was legitimate reasons, but getting a paid vacation after assaulting a handcuffed person is insane.
Bust police unions or make individual officers civilly liable for these actions.
Police unions aren’t like normal labor unions and are often the reason they get “leave” rather than being immediately terminated.
Adding civil liability ( removing qualified immunity) would mean this student would have a ton of attorneys knocking down their door to sue the pants of the officer.
Either or both of these would act as a deterrent to bad behavior. I, personally, think both should happen. Officers are citizens and shouldn’t get different treatment.
