Today’s game is Monster Sanctuary. I was initially going to try and diversify The Halloween season by trying some obscure Indie Horror games, but literally all the ones i could find just didn’t seem personally appealing or weren’t really horror. Mostly for point 1 it was Mascot horror, which, i don’t have anything against, but it’s not my kind of thing usually. I did pick one Mascot Horror game called Happy’s Humble Burger Farm up. It seemed interesting so i might give it a try.

But, on top of that, i found Monster Sanctuary. I originally played the game on i believe Game Jolt way back before it was released and enjoyed it. Back then i was gaming on a 32 bit HP Compaq with 4 GB of RAM (it was 2017/2018), so these kind of games were all i really had access too. As i got older i got access to more diversity, but i’m happy to see this game go a full release. Usually i’m not a Metroidvania (or turn based RPG) guy, but something about the demo version of this was fun to play.

My current team is Becky (my starter), FUCKING bird (it’s full name is stupid FUCKING bird that i hate after it gave me a bunch of trouble), and Stacy. Surprising i have FUCKING bird on support, which is rare. Because i almost NEVER use support roles in games.

I got all the way to what i would call the first “Boss Fight” of the game, which is this old guy and his Gang of slimes. It gave me a bit of trouble, but i managed to do it with only Stacy dying. That’s when the game told me i could upgrade skill for my team and everything got a whole lot easier. That was about where i left off. I got some more grinding in and then called it a night so i could get to bed earlier tonight.

Its a fantastic game! Got really close to beating it but dropped off. Music was good, the actual monsters very fun. Some of the better pixel art and the controls were tight.

Some of the bosses are VERY hard, to the point I had to look up guides. Its worth the $$. Honestly I wish they had an easy mode or something to get us though the hardest parts.

Im glad you are enjoying it!

I’ve heard a few people discuss the difficulty ramp up with the bosses. I’m kind of surprised it doesn’t have an easy mode

I loved this game, up until the difficulty ramped up quite hard and I just couldn’t proceed. Could be a classic issue of gidgud, but the shift was quite sudden, iirc. It’s been quite a while since I last played (early 2021, around ~13 hours, according to steam).

The game looks absolutely lovely, that style is absolute peak.

Looks really nice! Thought it was a terraria clone at first, will check out the reviews

Edit: bought it since it’s 75% off, played around 2 hours, it’s pretty entertaining, I’m not a super fan of this kind of turn based combat in general, but we’ll see

Oh wow. It’s really pretty looking and the concept sounds interesting. It’s interesting to see the leap in game quality. I guess having that first game under their belt was good practice
