Ender Lillies. Great game so far. The sequel is meant to be better. Need to finish this first

I think Lilies has a better mood/setting than its sequel, but Magnolia is absolutely fantastic and improves on almost everything else - and Lilies was already a damn good game. I finished it earlier this year and left a spoiler-free mini-review in one of these threads.

One thing worth mentioning if you’re coming from Lilies is that Magnolia is significantly easier on “Normal” difficulty, so if you prefer more challenging games you’ll probably want to up the difficulty.

After a perfunctory amount of Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent, I jumped straight into Xenoblade Chronicles X for a few hours. After my weekend walk to the ice cream place, I’m about to jump back in.

It’s so neat to see scenes and pictures I remember from playing way back in the Wii U days. I ran into a one creature that made me think “oh, I remember that guy from almost a decade ago!” Moments later, I was thinking, “oh, he’s running straight for me!”

I still don’t like the combat bar: the change to the Xenoblade 2/3 style double diamonds for arts was a genius UI move. But I can forgive a lot with the memories this game is resurfacing.

Maybe I should stop messing around and start chapter 5’s story mission instead of just wandering throughout Mira. Or not. Either way is a rewarding weekend play.

I’ve been playing Wasteland: Remastered (a remaster of the original Wasteland, from 1988). I’ll probably play through 2 and 3 afterward.

Working in putting together my Pokemon Scarlet living dex, sans Violet exclusive singletons. I’m pretty close - need to nab another color of Minor and a couple pokemon that are genderless, and thus not breedable. I also have to complete some more group BBQs, for those legendaries. I’m deviating a bit to put together a couple of raiders to take on Mightiest Tyranitar, first, though.

    Finally tried Balatro!

I needed an Internet free game to play on my flight this week.

If you’re A fan of roguelike deck builders. You should definitely give it a shot!

    Finished Trails Through Daybreak II!

JRPGs usually end with an epic struggle and tons of battles, but this game does something different for its final chapter - you solve a few cases, enjoy bonding moments with your party, then go through a short dungeon with only two boss battles to close the last unsolved mystery in the game.

It’s very subdued for a finale but I loved it. The last battle was particularly awesome, and the ending had some good emotional moments bringing closure to events from Daybreak 1.

    Final battle spoilers

I complained a lot about this game’s poor usage of the time travel gimmick, but the way you jump through time mid-battle to the an earlier confrontation with Grendel Zolga, then jump again for a quick rematch with some of Daybreak 1’s bosses was really cool.

The boss being able to “break” the turn-based battle system and force you into action combat for a short time was also a neat touch, it gives it a strong sense of power as this is something no enemy did before.

Overall, I’ll stick by what I said last week - this one goes on the lower tier of games in this series, but I still had a ton of fun. As a final note, Trails Beyond the Horizon just got announced today, so we’re finally catching up to the japanese releases!

    Playing Tevi!

Rabi-Ribi was an incredibly pleasant surprise, so I decided to play this “spiritual sucessor” from the same developer.

They clearly had a much bigger budget with this one. Visuals and animations are much more detailed, there’s a proper story, plenty of fully-voiced segments including famous japanese VAs, and a more in-depth and customizable combat system.

It’s more linear than Rabi-Ribi, but the same applies to pretty much every game in this genre. 😅 The only real complain I have so far is the relatively low number of saving points, I tend to play these games in short bursts and sometimes I have to keep going for longer thay I’d like before I find a proper place to stop.

Thank you for being so good about using spoiler tags! I saw the words final battle and quickly scrolled away until I remembered whose comment I was reading. Truth be told, I think I’m past having time for an RPG like Trails, but I might watch someone stream it one day.

Probably applies to me as well (my backlog is getting absurd), but I simply can’t resist certain series. 😆

This year is going to be rough on my free time, we’re getting 3 Trails games (Daybreak 2, Horizon, Sky FC Remake), a Xenoblade and an Atelier.

I need to get back to Trails game. Was playing the Trails in the Sky SC, when got stuck on the boss, and they announced the remakes, so just dropped those. Maybe I should start with Trails from Zero. Since they are available on console, would be easier to play them.

The main issue with playing these games out of order is that you get some spoilers from previous arcs. As an example, there’s a character storyline from the Sky trilogy that is finished in Zero.

But if you’re OK with that I’d say “go for it”. I played the games up to CS3 out of order (Sky 1/2 -> CS 1/2/3 -> Sky 3 -> Zero/Azure) and I don’t think it hurt my enjoyment of the series.

Just keep in mind that the later games in CS storyline (3/4/Reverie) ramp up the connections to Zero/Azure, which is why I paused after CS3 to go back and catch up on the older games.

That’s the main reason I haven’t played them yet. I really loved the first one, but my ability (or maybe willingness) to play older games is going down. I guess I should wait for the remake.

I’ve only played Monster Hunter this week. I was close to reaching High Rank, so I wanted to get that done. My collection of all Low Rank armor, both male and female, is complete. High Rank has two sets of each armor, Alpha and Beta, which means I have to make four full sets per category now. I think World already had that mechanic, but it caught me off-guard for sure!
