Can’t think of any modern mergers that didn’t result in a worse situation than it started. Stellantis has been the biggest train wreck so far. Honda and Nissan don’t deserve a bad future like this.
I don’t know how I feel about this, but tbh that is based on what they were, not what they are.
As a 5th gen Prelude owner, the new model offends me. I’m not excited to see it come back this way. The real 6th gen Prelude is a 7th gen V6 Accord coupe.
And the new company shall be called Honda-san.
Honda-kun ??
Honda must be in worse shape than I thought to consider merging with Nissan.
I mean for Nissan it’s either this, get bought out by the Chinese, or closer down. I think this is the best outcome of a bad situation.
Nissan has a head start when it comes to electric cars, and Honda really missed the boat on that one, so hopefully some cool electric cars come out of this synergy.
I wouldn’t say they have much of a head start. They did come out with the Leaf pretty early on but they didn’t really capitalize on that and their design is quite dated by this point.
Afaik Honda is using GM platforms for their new car?
I hope Nissan doesn’t drag Honda down with them. Modern Nissans are trash.
I like the Nissan Z, but they should have made it electric. And maybe a hard top convertible too.
Welp, guess I’ll stop buying Honda. It was nice while it lasted.
Ehhh we’ll see. I feel this is more a takeover of Nissan than anything else since Honda’s market position and corporate structure is so much stronger.
When Chrysler merged into Fiat becoming FCA, Fiat was the weaker player, but Chrysler had the most institutional level problems (and honestly always have). The merged entity ended up getting the bad baggage from both. In this case Honda has a lot better position to drive real improvements in Nissan.

Oh, I hope so. Honda makes a famously reliable vehicle and does some pretty interesting robotics research. Nissan seems to have a weird “the boss’s kid can do no wrong” vibe (based on a few moments from a documentary that was trying to make it seem like a good thing.)
I am afraid the merger will retain the worst of both, as often seems to happen.
It’s sad because the Frontier is a solid truck
It should be when you’ve been building the exact same truck for 20 years straight.
If it ain’t broke
There’s definitely some truth to that but it didn’t seem to work out in Nissan’s favor in the end.
Here’s my obligatory chance to mention the old Nissan hard body pickups, how much better they were than the Frontier IMHO, and how much I wish they would make something like them again.
Not knocking the Frontier so much as saying I loved my old truck and wish I could get it back it or get a new one.
It’s probably wishful thinking, but maybe Nissan will get Honda to up their pickup game. I don’t care for the Ridgeline.
It would be nice to have an actual small pickup option
Been my daily driver for the past 7 years. Well, not Frontier exactly but Navara which is the European equivalent with the main difference being the 2.5 litre turbo diesel engine.
Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
