I didn’t miss it so much as I didn’t think it was that important, but you’re right that it’s not a bad point to bring up. That 64.9m^2 is actually bigger than the 2LDK+Loft I live in now (55.x + the loft) in a freestanding house. For two of us, it’s mostly fine. Just because I work from home, I’d like a little more space, but it’s worked fine. Previously, my apartment was I think 32m^2 or so, which again was mostly fine.

People here aren’t used to f-off big houses like in the US (I can’t speak for Aus), so I think of it less as a problem and more of a “this is what we do” type of thing. In the post-war boom in the US, it seems a lot of newer houses were around 92M^2 (single-source quick google), but I know that number is way higher today. Anecdotally, I’ve not found wanting bigger spaces something that a lot of my friends have mentioned (until they have toddlers and older anyway, heh), particularly when a lot of them are only home to sleep, eat, and shower.

Healthcare costs, etc. are quite different if you’re used to the US system. We still pay something at point-of-service, but it’s nothing like the US. We are legally required to have insurance (some companies will cover some or all of this), but it’s also based on income.

I know lots of bartenders and such (and remember, no tips here) who live on their own and have money to spend. Definitely not glamorous or anything, but doable. Some, like my wife before I met her, live in fairly nice and central roomshares with another person.

I can’t really use my expenses to show anything useful as I eat lots of (more expensive) western foods/meat/cheese, work from home and usually have some kind of climate control going, have propane rather than city gas, etc.

Maybe something with potatoes? Fairly decent nutrition (though carb heavy if you care about that), cheap, and lots of ways to prep it (including forgetting about it in an oven for a couple hours with some salt on the outside wrapped in foil)

Maybe make an egg? Fried, scrambled, boiled, whatever. Start small and iterate. Next time maybe make some eggs with cheese or something else. You probably have all the equipment to do this and eggs shouldn’t be hard to find. Good luck!

Nope. I live on an island on the opposite side of the world from my family and there are currently no seafaring options that work with my employer. In-country, the only time I’ve flown is to another island several hours away. Otherwise it’s public transit for me the vast majority of the time (and my fuel efficient bike for when I need to go somewhere transit doesn’t (in ~ 9 months, I have < 800km on it, a lot of which was going to and from Costco).

I was wondering if it were tied to recent court decisions in Korea to allow someone to sue over wartime labour, but it looks like this has been going on a lot longer.

I mean, LOAF was a thing (Linux on a Floppy) that had basic functionality even as most distros were downloaded or on CD. I can’t imagine anyone still develops it, though.

They partner with an enemy of the US who now gets a presence in mainland North America at the US’s doorstep making infiltration to the US, etc. even easier.

I’m not seeing a setting to disable updates. Do you know where that might be? Thanks!

Thankfully, I don’t have this update yet. Not sure if because my region is Japan or if that’s not how they decided upon the staged rollout.

I oppose the death penalty in very nearly every circumstance. I think that prisons should be more about rehabilitation that just brutish punishment (but the punishment exists at least in part to avoid extra-judicial attacks by the victims who feel the perpatrator was not justly punished). Some people, of course, cannot be rehabilitated and, in that case, I would lean toward life in prison.

I had a mouse where one was vertical and the other horizontal, but I seem to think the horizontal scroll was oriented horizontally. Having googled the mouse in the picture, it says one is programmable and suggests it starts with volume.

I actually got board, got a new HDD, and got linux mint on it. It doesn’t seem to have a bootloader installed and trying to install grub2 hasn’t changed anything. I’m also pretty disappointed in game support. Maybe I’m missing something, but Steam knows it’s on linux and a huge number of games in my library just say they run on windows or windows and mac.
