400V in residential sounds exciting. That’s one way to cut down on wire cost I guess.

Yup. That’s why people use smaller heating elements and slowly heat up lots of water in an insulated tank instead. Just the difference in the cost of wire you need to run is massive.

I’m an electrician. I haven’t been impressed by most of the tankless systems I’ve hooked up. I would definitely go with gas unless you are willing to run some serious power. Most hot water tanks pull about 3000-4500W or 12.5-18.75A at 240V. A good tankless system is upwards of 18000W or 75A at 240V and some can be around 36000W which works out to 150A. This will easily be the single largest electrical load in your house, unless you also have an electric furnace or something. Depending the size of your electrical service and what else you have in your house you may need to upgrade the electrical service going to your house as well. Most Residential Electrical services are usually 100-200A in my area.

4·28 days agoNo multiplayer paywall, but they’ll probably try to charge you some sort of subscription anyway that’ll end up costing more in the long run.

8·1 month agoMan, I was soooo excited about the PS5, but then it turned into such a shit show to get one that I just put my money into my PC and I never even got around to picking one up when availability became more reasonable. I don’t think I’d ever really want to get back into the console gaming space anymore.

2·1 month agoI honestly assumed that she’d be one of the main instructors. Especially with Micheal saying something about Tilly being the Acadamy’s longest serving instructor (or something like that) in the Disco epilogue.
I had been thinking about it for a while. I had played with linux before on an old laptop, but not seriously, though I had been getting more frustrated with windows every time it updated it seemed. I then got the urged to play an old game of mine that i had picked up on a steam sale recently that i hadn’t played in years. It took hours of tinkering and web sleuthing to get it to run, then i played 20 min had to run to town, so I shut down my PC and bam. Windows update. Game no longer worked again. The next weekend I installed Linux mint, then Fedora, then the weekend Bazzite the weekend after that. The game I wanted to play on windows worked right out of the box on Proton. I’ve had less problems overall with Linux than Windows too. Most of the problems I did have early on were also self inflicted. Pro-tip don’t try to remove then re-install the lastest python manually in mint. It breaks everything apparently, luckily (unlike Windows) its very easy to re-install. It’s been about 7 months now.

8·2 months agoI found four and a half vulcans the weakest episode in my opinion, but a friend of mine loved the episode. My biggest problem with the episode, other than why was it really necessary, was actually pointed out by Kirk in the episode. They didn’t actually even act like Vulcans they were just dicks, Pike especially was uncharacteristically rude and would have never treated anyone the way he treated Spock in the episode.
Most of the season scored between 5-7/10 for me. Terrarium was an 8.5, Vulcans was a 4, This is Starfleet was a 3, but if it was filmed differently could have been so much better. I really this that This is Starfleet had one of the better stories and checks a lot of “Classic Trek” boxes for me.

13·2 months agoThis is the problem with modern TV shows. We only have 10 episode seasons now vs the 20+ long ones from the TNG era. If these were all episodes in a season that lasted 20 episodes I doubt we would be seeing as many complaints, but as it is 10 episodes does not leave much room for any change of pace mid season. This season, while in my opinion was quite well written, was a little all over the place and didn’t really seem to have a lot of direction. It really bounced around a lot, which wouldn’t be a problem as much if there was 20 episodes to work with, but when you only have 10 its hard to justify some of the “fun” or experimental episodes.
As an aside. My least favourite episode “This is Starfleet” was also my favourite story in the season and if it was shot as a normal episode I think would have probably be my favourite of the series so far. It really captured the “Classic Trek” vibe for me.

1·2 months agoI kinda started a “seedbox” for at least my niche torrents. Most of the mainstream things I download I don’t normally leave to seed that long as there’s already plenty seeding, but a lot of the documentaries or other things that only have single or double digits seeding I’ll make a copy and leave it to seed for a while. I used to host my Plex server from that PC and when I build my new dedicated server I left the storage intact, but transferred my whole library over, so I have a large amount of unused space doing nothing else.
I’m also fairly new to all this. I’m now using Jellyfin for selfhosting. What’s the benefit of enencoding everything?

3·4 months agoI really like this slightly more chill La’an. John de Lancie was not expected. So If Trelane is now implied to be Q jr, is this episode supposed to take place before we see him in Voyagers Q2? He does come off as more of an immature teen in voyager, whereas in this and in TOS he’s quite more childish, especially when he’s challenged in both Trelane episodes.

6·4 months agoI do look forward to seeing Erika do more than just “Fly the ship,” but I really wish it was literally anything other than the exact same thin La’an has been dealing with. She’s talked about being on the Klingon front a lot, why not tie it into that. I do like seeing a slightly more chill La’an and really think her and Spock pair together well as friends, but I do hope they don’t throw in more romance at spock with her.

Yeah, although electric heat is 100% efficient it takes a lot of energy to heat water quickly. You’re better off going with gas for hot water on demand. I imagine the unit price is more, but the install price will probably be lower.
