I mean, one got shot and killed, and there was celebration.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a subject you (think) you know more about than the average Lemmy user?
3·19 days agoLighting and game design
Nope; the average person wants to only customise/personalise, not tinker.
I’m suggesting this distro to friends and family moving off of windows and wanting to save money. They think using command line is too “extra”.

1·24 days agoI don’t know. Considering that these guys feel through the cracks and failed to meet the expected height, weight and fitness and were deployed, I do question the quality assurance process and the competence at the top level.

11·1 month agoLet’s say they do the “brave” thing by naming themselves. They’re thrown out with their middle fingers up, and replaced by an inexperienced sycophant.
That sycophant is now in charge for hundreds if not thousands of other individuals and their lives.
It’s simply not worth their pride to risk the lives of these people under their command.
I think withholding their identities is a smart, if not expected, move.

6·2 months agoMoney. Untold amounts of money for selling sensationalism as a product. He’s always played both sides and benefits. For example, he invested $120mil into Theranos while at the same time WSJ was investigating them for fraud.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When rich people can edit their kids DNA won't that just lock everyone else out and create a new class?
1·2 months agoBut let’s look at anything that’s had their genes edited, bananas for example. They can’t breed and need to be cloned. One single disease will wipe out that genetically modified banana into extinction.
Same goes for humans. You edit something that’s not tried and tested against the very environment that you live in, you’re instantly vulnerable. Viruses and bacterium evolve much more quickly than we do and you just can’t edit genes fast enough to account for that.
So, on the bright side, the rich who will edit their genes to favour human traits will ultimately suffer the consequences of nature. Was brilliantly covered in War of the Worlds, the novel.

14·2 months agoNature takes its course.
Remember the rich tried to keep their genes separate from the masses by inbreeding. Look at where that got them.
I dual boot. It’s so painful to go back to windows but some work related software doesn’t run at all in Wine. Perhaps I should VM W10 or W11.

3·3 months agoHave you gone to their (Collective Shout) website to check out their successful campaigns? They’ve taken down a manufacturer on Temu who makes silicon heads used for piercing. Apparently the heads looked too much like children.

9·4 months agoGoddamn cookers the lot of them. Perhaps I’ll make an abortion game on Itch in protest.
You can thank Advance Australia for that. Huge think tank that likely bank rolls all this nonsense and more.
Also, down with Collective Shout! As someone who suffered child abuse, I condemn these cookers crusading under the guise of child protection. FFS, they were patting themselves on the back for stopping sales of plastic heads on Temu.

Agreed on all counts aside from 2.
The original had class and functionality, complete with datum lines and concealed lighting. It was aged, for sure, but the design comes together and looks comfortable.
The new one is literally just slabs of maybe real marble but i doubt it. There’s no demarcation between floor and ceiling. It’s as if someone just used the paint bucket tool and clicked fill. The lighting is atrocious; if you’re in the bath you cop an eyeful of a glare bomb.
I’d take the original any day. Would have probably just added sheer curtains to the windows.
