No, closest thing is to join a datahoarder group and trade when needed.
Although with LinkWarden gaining popularity, something like this developing is a possibility.
I remember the concern years ago was: since the application was bought (acquired?) and the tool was still publically free, that the new owners had added the spyware to try and monetize the data coming from said spyware/telemetry.
After reading your comment I went back and did some cursory searches, and it looks like the general concensus is that its less of a concern than it was originally - although, there is still uncertainty around how the tool is being monetized, which is enough for some to stop using it.
My exact experience finding out Audacity has adware
Matrix does not have seamless desktop sharing or voice chat, and has a drastically higher executive cost. It also does not solve the information silo issue.
The fediverse as a whole is promising but likely needs to mature a bit longer. Theres a lot of potential issues that have yet to be worked through.
Yeah, this is a big part of why I stopped using discord recently. Not yet sure of any alternatives but leaving is step one.
Oh, I need this thread. I’ve been all over the place ever since Mint shut down.
I’ve been trying to find a more privacy-friendy alternative to Discord but I keep coming back to the issue of screen sharing. No other platform does it as smoothly.
The best I’ve found is using Parsec with some virtual audio cables to avoid voice feedback.
This is why having a virtual number is good - my google voice number catches the overwhelming majority of the spam
In my defense, my pattern recognition works a lot better with depth perception and movement
I recently stumbled upon SDF and it honestly filled me with so much hope and inspiration, that something so cool and benevolent could be held sacred for decades and has persisted through all the changes and enshittification, it felt like climbing a mountain and finding a perfectly preserved monastery with libraries full of wisdom still stewarded by living digital monks.
And yet when I share my enthusiasm with anyone, they say “i don’t get it, just looks like an outdated website to me…” -_-
Generally, I’m against violence towards journalists - but dishonest and manipulative headlines like this tend to make me reconsider my stance, if but for a moment.
My memory sort of acts like a carousel/merry-go-round, in that I’ll store a memory, I know it is there, but I cannot access it at will, and it will re-appear at a random time at some point in the future when doing something completely unrelated.
A “memory-go-round”, if you will.
Oh this is awesome, how have I never heard of this?
I need to try this, it looks great!
True, introspection can help a lot. Therapy is even better
No he’s not. You just made that up. Its going to be different this time, I swear
I was very on board with your comment until the Meyers-Briggs pseudoscience BS and then you lost me
