It’s basically the continuation of Atom. It’s got rough edges though regarding plugins but it’s good enough to allow me to avoid VSCode.

Save a slap for the leap seconds creator.
Or, we could collectively realize time is but an illusion and transcend this silly problem.
All the waste a plant ever produces in its lifetime can be contained with ease on site.
Won’t that create a bunch of targets all over the country? Then terrorists or enemy states can use simple small bombs to make whole areas uninhabitable for the next millennium.
I don’t disagree with you, but this is unrealistic.
But…we don’t have a choice if we are to survive. Continuation with any system like our current system (i.e. exploitation of nature for economic growth) will lead to obvious ecological collapse. Why is certain ecological collapse viewed as the more realistic choice?
This is akin to a person well on their way to a heart attack saying “well, eating healthy is unrealistic, so let’s switch to diet coke and pretend that’s enough”
Sometimes I use the term “psychopathic hoarder class” when referring to this group of people.

Larry Finger, your work has made a significant positive impact on my life and I’m sure many others. Thank you.
Now can you work on a driver to allow communication between the living and the dead?
I’m still on IPv3, haven’t updated yet.
Bummer, I haven’t felt this sad since learning about thermodynamics.
You’re right, to some insufficient degree, but that’s like reducing your meth habit.
It’s not possible to produce the amount of meat needed to feed our massive population while treating animals humanely.
There are really two options to deal with this:
Most humans in the world become vegan – sounds great but it’s not gonna happen
Reduce our population to sustainable numbers (by eliminating the driver of the population explosion, i.e. fossil energy) – maybe also not gonna happen
Edit: What (do I think) will happen? We’ll continue as we are now as hundreds of billions of animals are tortured until our civilization collapses. This will happen because we were all brought up under a state and told that defending ourselves, our communities, our animals, is wrong and illegal.
Ya, this is the response I always get from tankies.
I was speaking of the general authoritarian vs libertarian divide in the left. It’s not about power excercised, it’s about the power some on the left feel entitled to exercise to achieve their goals.
Everyone on the left wants to make the world a better place, eliminate hunger and homelessness, all that good stuff.
–> The terminology is confusing though as different groups use different words or definitions.
On the one side you have your (authoritarian) “socialists”, and “communists” those who believe that order must be imposed from above by a powerful government and this government. Good social behavior is coerced by implied threat of force. This government of course is supposed to be and remain benevolent and always controlled by well-meaning socialists to ensure a functional socialist system. The DSA fits in here on the lighter side, “tankies” fit here on the extreme authoritarian end.
On the other side you have your anarchist types (who are also typically non-authoritarian communists), those who feel that any entity powerful enough to control society will inevitably end up controlled by the worst type of people (because this is what’s happened in every state/government that has ever existed) and the we should look to non-state and non-coercive solutions.
For sure! Ya I was happy to find it as letting MS force me into their world was not something I was willing to let happen and I didn’t find another FOSS editor that was appropriate for my needs.
Ya, I wish they were more effective. I’d also like to see more from the less authoritarian side of the left.
Have I not seen both Harris and Walz in rural areas almost every day lately going into small shops and union factories… putting tons of money and energy into swing states and states not normally considered in play for the Democrats? I don’t remember seeing either of them spending much energy going to Manhattan, Los Angeles, San Diego, etc. that I remember. I’ve heard them both talk about rural areas mostly and being incredibly important and listen to their concerns.
The US is huge, they are two people, it’s impossible for them to visit every small town.
