maxwells_daemon@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Coincidentally, FFM peg is also something you can find on the hubEnglish4·12 hours agoI mean, I agree that in an ideal world, people would just not use TikTok, and let it die. But they use it, because it hijacks their dopamine response, it uses pavlovian and skinnerian conditioning to trap people into cycles of behavioral control, and they don’t know or care enough to stop using it. It’s literally the same thing a drug like weed does to your dopamine receptors.
And you could say “just don’t use it yourself”, the problem is this mass compliance leaks onto every other platform. Stories/shorts were a Snapchat issue, now they’re an internet issue. Everyone is getting brainwashed, and as a result, we get shit software spilling over from their shit platforms.
Maybe I got a little too doomer with this one, but how could I not, when taking about modern day social media…
maxwells_daemon@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Coincidentally, FFM peg is also something you can find on the hubEnglish10·14 hours agoDecent buffering, decent scrubbing with thumbnail preview, double tap to skip 10 sec forward or back, proper fullscreen on desktop, and orientation on mobile. That’s just to cite the very least. Imagine how good the YouTube player is, and how smoothly it works 90% of the time. Pornhub works that smoothly 100% of the time, with 90% of the features.
TikTok doesn’t even let you scrub, at all.

The way people can just accept whatever slop any corporate will feed them is just insane to me…

Free as in “you’re free to use the system, and tell it what to do”, not only as in “you can use it for free”.
If the only point for Linux was it being available for free, then just install Windows, open PowerShell and

They’re charging for the cost of putting together a kit so you can build one without thinking or understanding anything. If you want it for cheap, self source and DIY, that’s the whole point, that’s why the files are free.

My server is a loose motherboard with a loose PSU, thrown into the living room TV rack, which I leave open for cooling. It’s a repurposed (free) Athlon, DDR2. I only use it for smb and git backups, and project sharing between my desktop and laptop. What amazes me most is my IT coworkers don’t find that a perfectly acceptable scenario.
