Yep, my exposure was just gross grocery store or very bland things in salads or burgers. Flavorless and sometimes mealy. I never understood it. Thankfully I can even get great ones at stores now.

macncheese@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•So what are they teaching in U.S. criminal or constitutional law school classes right now?English5·11 days agoInteresting. Yea as much as I stated that I think the general (U.S.) populace has gotten way dumber, I am reminded that there are still a TON of smart people willing to fight the good fight. It’s just gotten a LOT harder to broadcast their smart ideas to the masses in a compelling way when we’ve all got the attention span of gerbils and we’re this close to airing “Ouch My Balls” from Idiocracy for real.
macncheese@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•So what are they teaching in U.S. criminal or constitutional law school classes right now?4·11 days agoIf interesting, will have to check it out. Aka it’s Roman Mars huh? I’ve enjoyed my fair share of 99pi although it’s been a while.
macncheese@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•whats the cheapest legal way to dispose of my dead body so i can stick it to the funeral industry?English11·12 days agoI don’t know the cost but I kind of want to be composted. That’s a thing.
macncheese@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was a time when your joke landed with perfect comedic timing?English4·12 days agoMore like when a joke happened to me … my husband was watching Curb Your Enthusiasm which I never got super into cause it was hard for me to watch Larry David be Larry David. But this one day, I got back from shopping at Costco and went to the kitchen to try and get the ridiculous plastic clam shell packaging off of whatever I bought. I was struggling, trying to cut it, pull it, wouldn’t budge. I go into living room and literally Larry David is doing the EXACT SAME THING on the tv, stomping on it etc. My mind was blown and my husband was all, see that’s all it takes! One thing like that and you’re hooked! I’ll always respect that show for making that cosmic thing happen lol.
macncheese@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a process where you prefer the old way of doing things instead of how it's done now?English8·12 days agoYes! Make smaller phones! Why do they all have to be getting bigger and bigger?
macncheese@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•So what are they teaching in U.S. criminal or constitutional law school classes right now?English2·12 days agoMy condolences…yikes. Are the other board members trying to hold him accountable at all? I mean for all I know they like what he’s doing professionally but I recall that even they were against ummm checks notes watching porn during an official board meeting…
macncheese@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•So what are they teaching in U.S. criminal or constitutional law school classes right now?English8·12 days agoOh shit, I didn’t see your comment before I made my comment mentioning Oklahoma. Sounds like you are in the dead center of the BS. Was it so bad when you were in school too or has it gotten markedly worse? Would love to hear first-hand about Oklahoma schooling beyond what I read in the headlines.
macncheese@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•So what are they teaching in U.S. criminal or constitutional law school classes right now?English4·12 days agoWell, we’re seeing a lot of that go down the drain currently and it’s scary. However we’re such a huge country, I think our public schools will vary state by state, school district by school district really. There’s been a concerted effort by the right to get on school boards and influence curriculum. It’s a lot more out in the open now with Prager U BS. See latest ridiculous headlines of how slavery shouldn’t be taught so negatively (Uhhhhhhhhhhh). A lot of Christianity trying to be infused into classrooms, proposals to display 10 commandments, banned books etc. Meanwhile same school district supervisors being caught watching porn during these board meetings! Sigh. This was like in Oklahoma which man I feel for Oklahomans. Meanwhile, where I live, I don’t fear so much for that kind of curriculum cause I’m in a place Trump would probably call a crime infested shithole (it’s not) and schools display the progress flag and respect pronouns and such. But man I don’t know if the numbers are in our favor and the general populace HAS gotten dumber I swear…
A well made game knows no age limits! My kiddo was super into the original mario when we showed it to him. I would have thought it would look dated, but he doesn’t know!

macncheese@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•'Release the Cuomo List': Zohran Mamdani Launches Scathing New Attack on RivalEnglish50·21 days agoAh I needed that. It tells you all you need to know that establishment DNC is so afraid of him. Turns out, you find out what’s been grinding people’s gears, you run on a platform of fixing those problems, people like that. Helps that he’s way more new media savvy probably just as a consequence of being younger and a digital native. I’m not going to expect perfection from this guy. I’m sure rising stars will falter and make mistakes too just like anyone, let’s be realistic. But I see this ad and it’s like, yes! This guy doesn’t make me feel like I’m taking crazy pills! I wish I could vote for him. You think he’s going to be worse than the ex-gov who resigned in disgrace and the current mayor who made a deal with Trump to make his corruption charges go away? Dude’s gonna try and make buses free, ooh how scary.

I once heard Margaret Cho say that he’s so ugly, old Asian people would say he is bad luck. That got me good.
macncheese@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you do when homeless folks ask for money?7·22 days agoDepends. I probably give more frequently than the average person. I live in an area with a lot of unhoused people and every encounter is different. I have seen the same people panhandling certain areas and I typically skip those, sometimes it’s someone selling a newspaper specifically made for unhoused people to sell and I’ll tend to buy one from them, sometimes it’s someone asking by a store and I’ll tell them I’ll get them on the way out, if they’re obviously not crazy or aggressive in response then yea I do give them something on the way out if I can. One guy walks straight up into traffic with his dog and it’s never for him. Sometimes I’ll have a bottle of water in the car and I will tend to give that rather than money for the intersection people.
I guess it’s vibes whether I give or not. If the vibe is obviously off or dangerous, nah. I will admit to stereotyping this scenario but if it’s a lady with a headscarf with kids…no that is a f’ed up scam.
But often it’s just someone asking and they’re not being aggressive and I’ll hand them a buck and nine times out of ten they say thank you or God bless you. 1 time out 10 it isn’t as nice or they might ask for more. I don’t belong to a church but in some ways I like the idea of tithing so I have reframed a lot of giving out some money directly as part of that. I donate to orgs too. At the end of the day, they’re people. I have no clue if or how we can solve the homelessness crisis but I have to keep reminding myself that they’re people. So I try to just think of it as if I have it today this could really benefit them and it won’t cost me too much to throw a buck their way.
We are also living in an era of increased fear and I am actively just trying to see people for whoever they are and having more small interactions with whoever. Striking up a little small talk with the cashier or people in line. Cracking a joke to a stranger if we both saw something kinda funny. Trying not to be naive about it and using my best judgement but I think we are losing our ability to just be with each other more and more. We all want to live in a community and have a nice neighborhood. The reality is I chose to live where I do and my community has a lot of unhoused people so I have to accept they are a part of my community. I don’t believe in gated HOA type living for myself, so why should I expect that level of conformity and comfort? I’ll face more discomfort but try to still live within my values in the face of it.
Aaaaand the edible has kicked in.
macncheese@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Keyboard questions! Can you type without looking at the keys? Do you have a preferred format or make of keyboard?English2·1 month agoYes, we had a computer lab in grade school that we would go to maybe once a week or once every two weeks. We learned qwerty and the teacher would cover your hands with paper so you couldn’t look. It was infuriating at the time but once I learned it, I was set for life. I don’t really think about it, it’s just like speaking a language to me. For the most part I type properly but I have gotten into a strange habit of hitting delete with my middle finger instead of my pinky finger. No clue why/when that started and I have to reach over farther but now that’s second nature as well. I recall if you got good enough you could play around on the games in Mavis Beacon!
macncheese@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is Lemmy so US-centric? The largest instances are in Europe, aren't they? So why does it have to be US news trolling as if it were Reddit?English14·1 month agoI mean honestly this is the most deranged and worst it’s been in my … at least adult lifetime. I think a lot of the political mess we’re in is tied into our appetite for some pretty terrible pop culture. Yes, yes, we have moral and intelligent and sane people here too, but the way that we have leaned in so hard to trashy reality television, infuencers, anything to grab your attention and reward it monetarily…hell we have a reality tv president. It’s not the only reason I think we’re in the mess, but I think we’ve been primed to accept more and more outrageous behavior cause we’ve always been over the top and big and loud. I always assumed I’d live in a democracy, it was just a given. This is the first time I’m doubting it.

We’re like the worst car crash you’ve ever seen and then the ambulance also crashes then the fire truck blows up and then aliens come down and start attacking…kinda hard to look away.
I’ll admit it, I play a lot of Gardenscapes and those Diner Dash games before that. But if you’re looking for more of an action game feel, try Vampire Survivors. It’s free and pretty well done for what it is. You just survive as long as you can as hordes of monsters come at you. You upgrade weapons as it gets harder and harder.
Mmmm love a savory baked good. Enjoy PAX! How’s it these days? (I suppose you can know better after today) I used to work it for PR reasons and a couple years running logistics for Indie MEGABOOTH, was super fun. Haven’t been in years though.
