  • I’m not sure if mods are a proper criteria when it comes to comparing Lemmy and Reddit. The audience is mostly the same and Lemmy doesn’t automatically make people/mods better or worse.

Also, you forgot one major point: API! I get to use and support my third party app of choice Sync here on Lemmy which was killed off by Reddit.

    • KDE Connect: Transfer files, clipboard, notifications between your phone and computer on your local network.
    • Unit Lab: Easy converter. Allows you to add different units together (eg. 5kg + 10lb + 4 stone).
    • Seal: Great front-end for yt-dlp. Allows you to download YT/IG/TikTok videos. Would like to see IG image download support.
    • AVNC: VNC client, allowing me to remotely access my laptop from my phone via local network.
    • Binary Eye: Barcode scanner with the option to turn on scan history.
    • Copy: Copy text from apps that otherwise may not allow you to copy text. Also allows for easy taking of screenshots.
    • Save To…: Useful for saving certain files that sometimes don’t give the option to save.
    • Secure Tether: Share your mobile data as a hotspot for other phones/computers, bypassing your provider’s restrictions on hotspot.

  • It’s tempting to opt for telematics/black box insurance because of the initial cheaper prices but the privacy violations and potential downsides make it not worth it.

You can be the best defensive driver in the world but sometimes you’re just going to have to brake hard to avoid an object that may jump on you, dinging your driving score and raising your premiums.

Contrary to what this post’s image says, I’m reading online that these apps aren’t perfect at differentiating between who’s a driver and who’s a passenger.

Have fun fighting with your insurance to get them to remove anything from your record.

Last week a squirrel decided it didn’t want to live anymore and jumped into my way while I was driving. It was on an empty slow street at night so I was safely able brake hard to avoid killing the poor thing. If I had spyware insurance they would’ve dinged me for it.
