  • My guess is that’s either a typo and was supposed to be “shipped”, or that they deliberately chose the word shifted (“to exchange for or replace by another”) in order to combine the numbers of sales and repairs into one statistic so it looks bigger. After Nintendo was mass-sued about the poor quality of their C-sticks, they were ordered to replace / repair any stick drift issues for free even outside of the warranty period, and people naturally used that feature.

I for one had to send my joycons in for repair six times since buying the switch, so in that statistic my hardware would have been sold once, but “shifted” seven times.

  • Extreme levels of social awkwardness and the innate ability to infect/inject other people with it temporarily. An angry mob is throwing bricks in the streets? Let Sup-Aut talk to them for five minutes and everyone will be so uncomfortable that they’d rather go home than rioting. Sup-Aut is especially effective because they, too, would rather go home soon that continue standing in the spotlight, so these encounters usually take all of five minutes until the respective issue is resolved.

Weakness: everything they get told to resolve has to be done either RIGHT NOW and completely unprepared, or they’ll procrastinate and prepare until the city burned to the ground. There is no middle ground between these extremes, and it is impossible to predict which one will happen.

“People don’t trust autonomous vehicles for safety, security and privacy concerns, so instead of fixing these issues, let’s put some googly eyes on them!” galaxy brain explodes

…seriously tho, which kind of genius exec thought that this was a good idea? Do they think the Uncanny Valley is a spa resort or whatever?

  • One of my biggest fears is to see moderators act too quickly

That’s an important point right here - one that is commonly overlooked. We all have shitty days every now and then, sometimes the tone of a comment / post is completely accidentally way harsher than you intended it to be, sometimes you can lose yourself in the heat of an argument if its about a topic that happens to be a sore spot for one of the participants. It happens. And if a mod then comes swooping in to immediatly kick you out of the conversation and tell you off for having a bad day, it won’t get better.

I sure had days like these where I let frustration get the better of me, but once I cool down a bit and realize that I’ve been too harsh, I always come back to apologize and explain to the other person that it wasn’t their fault. And I’ve been on the “other side” of such conversations as well, and every time it happens I truly appreciate the other person reaching out to me. Now, if mods act “too quickly” and/or too harsh, that scenario is oftentimes no longer possible. If one of the people involved in the argument is kicked out of the community, silenced, banned or whatever, there is no apology, and people might hold grudges.

Of course there are times where you absolutely need to act quickly and harshly (violent threats, racist slurs etc.) but it is also important for a mod to know when NOT to act immediatly, or when to intervene in a “soft” way (like asking people why they’re being cranky today - sometimes that’s all it needs to snap out of a funk you didn’t know you were in).

… and I get that this isn’t always easy for a mod. You may stumble upon a discussion that’s slowly deteriorating and think “oh dang, I’m responsible for making this right - I have to DO something!” and then do something that might not have been necessary. Sometimes, it is completely okay and even preferable if the mods just keep an eye on a discussion without immediatly intervening.

  • While there is no medicine for autism itself, there are certain medications that help to better cope with the symptoms to improve one’s overall quality of life (antidepressants, stimulants, anti-anxiety stuff) and if you’re not officially diagnosed by a qualified doctor, you might not be able to get those. The same for certain state & federal services, access to specialized therapy etc. which - bluntly speaking - do not care about self-diagnosed conclusions, no matter how accurate. For most things that involve any form of bureaucracy, you need something “official”.

That being said; if you happen to currently not need / want anything “locked” behind an official assessment (like finding a therapist that you’re comfortable with who does not want to see a prior diagnosis), and the cost is so much of an issue that you would need to decide between getting assessed and getting bankrupt, then it is probably better to wait a little longer.

  • I don’t have a meter (that I know of) in the actual sense, but I call these days “low battery mode” and yes they do happen mostly if the couple days prior have been eventful in one way or another - whether stressful or blissful, that doesn’t even matter. On paticularily bad “low battery” days, I don’t even feel hunger/thirst and have to force myself to eat and drink the bare minimum. Literally everyhing is a slog for a while then, even things that I normally enjoy. It usually takes a day or two to get better on its own.

…and yes, trying to explain these things to someone who has never experienced the issue firsthand is very difficult. People usually assume I’m just feeling a bit down and need cheering up, not understanding that the things that normally would cheer me up do not have ANY effect at the moment, and that I’m not “feeling down” but don’t feel anything at all.

Sadly I haven’t found a good way to cope with the issue except for waiting it out until it goes away.
