Videos@lemmy.world•Rush hour traffic in Utrecht, Netherlands 🇳🇱English
3·8 days agoFirstly your numbers are wrong, you need double the number of trips (it’s at least 2 just for commuting). So let’s say 5% chance over your lifetime. And that number is increasing because of the reasons mentioned in the article.
Secondly just cause it’s more likely than not you’ll never get a crash doesn’t mean you have to be a dumbass and not wear a helmet. Is it really that difficult to take a little bit of precaution for something with a 5% chance of happening sometime in your lifetime? Seems like a no brainer to me.
So you get out of here with your self-destructive attitude. Wearing helmets saves lives.

26·9 days agoThis is just wrong, head injuries are very common in the Netherlands. https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jun/16/the-brain-is-very-vulnerable-dutch-cyclists-urged-to-wear-helmets-as-road-deaths-rise
Just wear a fucking helmet, looking like a dweeb is better than brain damage.

I’ve tried slathering the inside of our pumpkins in vasaline and they still started rotting within 2 days. Wasn’t worth the unpleasant feeling of rubbing jelly on cold stringy pumpkin insides…
Yeah fast forward 20 years when the couple has chronic dental/health issues and they can’t afford treatment. Or the trailer rusts and vermin sneak in. Or any one of a million emergencies that money could fix. This lifestyle only works if you’re “lucky” for an extended period of time.
They’re not very good at being wage slaves

10·2 months agoI had stopped collecting MP3s in the late 00s when Spotify first became a thing, but then a couple years ago I decided to drop streaming and modernize my digital collection (replace most MP3s with FLAC). Plexamp is a really good mobile music player, and on desktop I use Foobar2000.
When I want to listen to something new I use YouTube Music, which is ass but comes with my premium subscription. If I think I’ll listen again to that music I sail the high seas for the FLACs.
Overall has made me more intimately connected to my collection, doesn’t feed Spotify a dime, and guarantees lossless quality. Took a bit of effort but was worth it.
“That didn’t work? Ok, drop another Tron and another Freaky Friday. Oh and remake Moana also.”
Most of the commenters here are too powerful to disagree with this statement.

My strategy is read just enough rules to start and then just fucking start. The first game no one knows what they’re doing anyway so fuck it, hop in and learn by doing.
