I think many people really don’t like knowing that other people suffer. Much easier to pretend that suffering doesn’t exist by not interacting with it. But once you overcome that hurdle of realizing that suffering exists, then there’s so much joy to be found in being able to actually eliminate some of it.
Do you have a stabby stick, or do you just wear gloves?
Is JustServe alright? The context I learned about it was Mr Beast teaming up with the LDS church, and I wasn’t sure if it was a Mormon thing or not.
One of my favorite things in college was checking out my fraternity chapters website for volunteer sign ups. It was fun to have a menu of opportunities every weekend. It would be nice to just go to an app or something instead of just trying to tune my Facebook algorithm.
Food pantries are great. One of the few good deeds in the world where the impact is something you can very directly see.

Right wing women redirect their frustrations with being treated like breeding sows to an acceptable target. Gives them a feeling of power and control.

15·21 days agoThey immediately used his death to try to argue that trans people are all domestic terrorists, and organized witch hunts to get people fired for making comments (often targeting professors that were on TPUSA’s hit list). There is a good chance that the Trump regime will cite the shooting as evidence that trans people should be viewed as terrorists.
I think it also really exemplifies the “reality show” - iffication of right wing American politics. The president is a reality TV star, Dr Oz is administering Medicare, Hegseth was a news personality; Erika Kirk is just an opportunistic vulture like the rest. The kind of person who spends their life trying to get on Big Brother or Survivor so that they can make a career out of partying and socializing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you know that the women in your porn are consenting?
1·22 days agoGay for pay shit is often fucked up too. There you go. I think it’s actually harmful as shit that a lot of queer boys grow up with no access to actual sex ed and learn how to do things from porn.
What proportion is there of straight porn to gay porn?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you know that the women in your porn are consenting?
2·22 days agoPorn does not equal masturbation. And talking about masturbation in a beginning of the year ice breaker activity is not appropriate anyway.
I don’t understand the conflation here. I had said nothing about masturbation, which is healthy and fine. It’s problematic however, that 15 year olds are exposed to hard core BDSM shit with no explanation that while yes, some women do like it if you hit or choke them, those are not part and parcel of normal sex and should be carefully negotiated.
There’s been a huge uptick in kids choking each other, because they see it in porn. Choking is something that a lot of actual BDSM dungeons ban because it is that unsafe.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you know that the women in your porn are consenting?
2·23 days agoI think one of the things with “no ethical consumption under capitalism” is that no one “needs” real people porn. Erotica and drawn images are amply available, there’s no need for another human being to be potentially harmed.

2·23 days agoIsn’t social shaming “action”?
Maybe when someone posts that “blacked” meme, of Piper Perri surrounded by five men, point out 1) that the image is racist as shit, and 2) that Piper Perri’s boyfriend killed her baby, and that comments joking about this are common on her videos and discussions about her?
My first year teaching, we played “hangman” and the kids came up with their own words (I was stupid to allow this). One of them chose “Pornhub.” Maybe talking about jerking it should be something that isn’t so normalized that kids feel comfortable doing that?
You could also report porn that is suspicious in provenance? Ask your bros, if they bring up a porn star what they think about this issues?
Advocating for social change in the way we talk about these things isn’t “virtue signaling.”

Matthew 25:36-40 has Jesus being pretty explicit about his followers being called to feed the hungry and comfort the sick.
I have a lot of respect for Christians who understand their Christianity and Jesus’s sacrifice as an obligation to take up the cross and follow him. I don’t have a lot of respect for “Christians” whose belief system solely amounts to their pastor telling them that god hates gays.

1·1 month agoAn analysis based on class struggle would recognize that the Revolution was driven by and primarily benefited land speculators, as I alluded to earlier with my reference to the Henderson purchase. Pure Marxist historians are more creatures of the 70’s than the modern day. Historiography continues on.
You sound much more like a high school history teacher than a historian.
I hold a Bachelors in American History and am in fact certified to teach high school history.
Do you have anything other than personal attacks? Going to provide any sources of your own?

Fuck you. No, the murder of Renee Good is not comparable to soldiers getting confused about an order to fire when they were literally getting pelted with rocks.
Christ. Obviously Adam’s should haven’t of defended them, they should have just been executed on sight. Makes perfect sense.
Maybe read some primary sources from the time period, instead of trying to argue about a topic you haven’t looked into since high school.

4·1 month agoSorry, I studied American history beyond high school “King George was literally Hitler” propaganda.
Don’t forget that a major factor motivating the “Patriots” was the fact that England was going to create an Indian reserve (land speculators doing shit like “buying” all of Kentucky for a handful of beads was pretty problematic for peace), and that they were letting the Canadians be Catholic. But sure, we can pretend that expecting the colonists to contribute to the costs of defending them against the Indians they were genociding was horrific oppression.

3·1 month agoJust a reminder that the defense attorney, for the soldiers that gunned down the people during the Boston massacre, was none other than future president John Adams.
At the time, they were not advocating for independence, just more autonomy. Giving a fair trial and good representation in that trial was a way to demonstrate that the colonies could provide fair justice without England’s intervention. This is why they were so pissed off when the “Impartial Administration of Justice” Act passed.
He successfully argued they were in fear for their lives.
Which was probably fair in this case. The protesters at the “massacre” were throwing rocks at the soldiers. There was reasonable confusion in the moment.
If you liked FOMT/the idea of farming games in general, you would probably like Stardew. IMHO, it is really good at balancing things so that you aren’t locked into optimizing anything - you could farm minimally and focus on the social elements and have a good time too. The stuff in the meme doesn’t feel too much like pressure, because you’ll just naturally encounter everything by the end of year one and know how to find it by the end of year two for the community center (the main goal of the game), and if you want to optimize everything for cash you can buy out an equivalent “win.” It’s very sandbox-y.
Unlike the Harvest Moon games, gender doesn’t matter for who you marry, which is something I personally always enjoy in a “cozy” game. There’s even a cute option where you can chose to move in a monster as a friend instead of choosing to get married.
One of the funniest things I’m noticing on my current play through is that the easiest way to romance the alcoholic is to give him alcohol. The quickest way to consistently casually gain a bunch of hearts is to hang out at the bar every night and give everyone there a beer.
Similar to Harvest Moon, with a good dash of influence from the Rune Factory side series specifically. It was originally made to fill in the farming game niche - hard to imagine now, but there was a time period where there weren’t good new farming sims coming out.
FYI: the new Harvest Moon games have zero to do with the people who made the original Harvest Moon. The localizers got the rights to the “Harvest Moon” name and started making garbage slop farming games to take advantage of the name recognition.
The original creators are making games under the “Story of Seasons” name, including Switch remakes of Friends of Mineral Town and A Wonderful Life.

The DOJ has had a moratorium on pursuing any Title 9 claims related to gender identity for several years now. The EEOC has not been investigating claims of discrimination related to gender identity in several districts also for several years now.
These are specific items that need to be addressed. I’d like there to be separately pushed, because “Trans Bill of Rights” already sounds like it’s going to be nuked from orbit.
I had more than one job offer explicitly revoked because of my gender identity, including a federal one (cited Trump’s EO.) I sought help and did not find it. Living in a red state gives you zero recourse.
