  • I literally ragequit that captcha. Mine was showing floor plans and grainy “pictures” of a room asking me to pick which floor plan matched the picture from that perspective. I swear to you, none of them actually matched, progress reset constantly because I’d invariably pick the wrong one. It provoked such a primal rage in me, it felt like I was being gaslit into believing I was wrong when actually that captcha was cursed to hell and back. Thankfully my very patient partner managed to get through them for me and I only had to do it once to get the launcher to recognise my new pc.

Funny how using planners was an integral part to my therapy to cope with adhd. The thing is that I had to be taught and learn through cognitive behavioural therapy how to do that and how to make sure it actually helps me instead of just being another stressor.

All that to say “just use a planner” is terrible advice but not because planners are the enemy of the adhd brained person. Just wanted to say that in case anybody reading this goes into therapy and dismisses the notion because it’s become a bit of a meme around here.

  • You’re quite right and your post is absolutely not giving off any level of “the world revolves around me” energy so don’t take that comment to heart my friend. I agree with the other comments telling you that there’s different kinds of weird. If you proudly identify as “weird” then I’d probably argue that your version of “weird” could probably be described as “non-conforming”, “alternative” or “unorthodox”. The version of “weird” that is used to attack someone like Trump or his cronies is meant as “creepy” or “unhinged”. Basically it’s meant to take the wind out of the sails of a bunch of elitists trying to pass themselves off as some kind of man of the people by calling attention to the fact that they are not the strong average Joe they try to present themselves as. No need to feel like you might be mistaken for one, that shoe doesn’t fit you and you can probably trust that everyone can see that.

  • To me, an ignorant person who has only begun to seriously question capitalism after being exposed to lemmy for about a year, this visual analogy seems to imply that capitalism and fascism are thought to be distinct in the eyes of the maker of this meme, though. I think the suggestion of having them both be homelander conveys a different message which seems to be the consensus here: they are different sides of the same coin.

Admittedly, I’m out of my element here but I’m enjoying the exposure.

  • It goes both ways though. Kyle should also know his friend wouldn’t be happy about potentially losing his career over calls to murder a person for political reasons.

Disclaimer: I fucking hate Trump and wish he was killed years ago so I’m not saying I disagree with what Kyle said, I’m just disagreeing with when he chose to express it because he was there representing tenacious D which extends to jack as well. I’ll also add that at this point I worry that killing Trump now would only replace him with someone actually competent to drive the fascism train over the tracks that are already firmly in place, but that’s a different discussion.

Yes, or someone did show up despite knowing the risks because they trusted Hawking to understand the dangers of revealing the secret of time travel and not sharing it with any living soul. If time travel were to ever become possible and somewhat commonplace then the chances are probably close to zero that everybody chooses not to attend this party (assuming the invitation remains famous for long enough). Perhaps the party was crowded with people thinking the same way.

It’s much more likely that it all just played out exactly the way Hawking said it did, of course. But it’s a fun thought experiment to play around with.

  • Yeah, I don’t believe these megachurch pastors believe the word of God at all, or they wouldn’t be in that line of work.

Somehow in being an atheist I’m a more honest Christian than them in that I at least state outright that I’m not a Christian. That’s more honest than pretending to be Christian just to leverage people’s hopelessness to scam them into an even more dire and hopeless situation.

Well, you did a good job condensing where you were coming from in two paragraphs. Enough to make me realise that I mistook your original meaning completely. I hadn’t heard the 6 hours of work a week number before. In fact, I’ve never really questioned the logic I was taught with regards to agriculture being the start of civilisation due to freeing up hands and allowing people to settle down, because hunter gatherers would have to roam around at least a little to follow herds or seasonal effects on available forage. That understanding was based on what I’ve learned in history 101 at high school though.

I started out a bit argumentative because I read your comment as an overly dramatic lamentation that I took to mean something like: “people are so bad I wish we weren’t born/evolved”. Thanks for taking the time to kindly explain. I’m always interested in having a possible blind spot or internalised assumption revealed and to reassess entrenched beliefs.
