In dutch they are literally called sea-hedgehog. (zee-egel)

So, while latin and all is nice, there’s always the dutch way of “doe maar normaal dan doe je gek genoeg”. Which translates into: just behave as regular, that’s more than enough excitement.

Why the downvotes: because you’re clearly the asshole. Or isn’t this /amitheasshole?

Yes, older people have views from the past. That’s because they are older people. Yes, older people bitch and whine. That’s because friends and spouses are dead by now, they feel alone and forgotten. Yes, older people are not always nice. That’s because things you don’t even think about, like putting on clean socks or taking a shit by yourself have become hard, for some even impossible to do on their own and/or without pain leaving them with a feeling of loss and even regret for living that long.

On top of that they’re literally waiting to die. And let’s not forget dementia.

Now, maybe your granny is younger like 60 something, but still…

Your response to the situation lacks a lot of empathy and respect. Without this person you wouldn’t be sitting there, scrolling through anime titties you clearly like just not always.

And lastly: you will be her in 40-60 years. (i don’t know how old you are) You will be alone, your body will falter, your (grand) children will be uninterested in you. Etc.

  • Yikes.

I think it all revolves around your alcohol abuse. Starting the day with wodka is never a good idea. And you being 18 at the time does not make it better.

Realism should tell you that not your person made her do this but your addiction/alcohol abuse and your depression.

You probably said some things due to that combination which were awkward or maybe even scary. Or, which is also a thing, your “state” made her anxious and a little bit scared. Quite possibly both. You said strange things and she thought you scarey looking.

So far so good. I can rationalise that all since im no part of it all.

Now comes the assholes part: your school, everyone there , were assholes for making you sign that. It was stupid, it was kicking someone when their down. You needed help, not restrictions.

You needed a talk, no “contract”. Like: Yo, this girl is a little bit scared of you and prefers not to talk to you anymore. She is afraid to tell you this in person so I’m doing my job as a school official. So back off from her and frankly: you need help. Lets talk about that. Etc.

    That’s what shouldve happened.

That would be brutal but honest and such is life.

This? This was the easy way out.

Continue existing? Of course. Living is learning and you learned from this since you’ve sobered up. You’re great for accomplishing that. A lot of people can’t do that!

Healthy relationship: start with “just” relationships. Find out what interest you and get together with other like minded people. Just be you but always be clean and neat. People tend to stick with the first impression they get of someone. Being, what’s the English word, groomed? Is a big part of that. Healthy will come, just you wait. :)

No longer a threat: here you go, this is probably what freaked her out. Be honest to yourself. Don’t sugarcoat it. You can’t heal if you’re not real (to yourself).

How, why: she was scared, plain and simple. She didn’t dare to tell you no because she was afraid of what might happen. Account it to “shit happens”, learn from it and move on. Moving on from a crush is hard, yes. But you must. It’s been 6 years. A lot has happened in that time, no?

Hate yourself : wtf dude? Here you are, changing, sober , in therapy… You matter! You deserve to exist!! There is so much more to experience, some good, some bad. Both are needed for a balanced life and worldview.

Some days will be bad, some days will be good. Most days are in between :). Every experience is worthwhile. Every moment only happens once. Be there to experience it, however banal it is. Life is such a short stint in eternity. It’s a strange, rare gift in this universe and because of that worthy of experiencing. Because there comes a moment you won’t.

Its like they say in GoT: what do we say to the god of death? not today.

  • Im with the earlier “yeah… No.”

    Because

“If people can take case-dependence for passwords”

They cant now do they ? If they could passwords would be a-okay and there wouldn’t be any need for stickies on monitors, password managers, biometrics, SSO, MFA and passwordless authentication.

The dumbest idea in computing is assuming everyone is as smart as you.

They aren’t. Why isn’t *nix any bigger? Here’s your answer. People are stupid.

Why did IT only finally took off with windows 3.11? because people could understand that. Barely. Most of us where way to dumb for everything which came before.

Why does ipv6 acception takes so long? Because people are stupid and don’t get it. Nobody really gets hex. So they just stay with what they can read and more or less get. Even the hardest part of ip4, subnetting, has an easy way out: just add 255.255.255.0 in there and it works. Doesnt work? Keep replacing 255 with zeros and eventually it will. Subnetting on ipv6? No idea. Let’s just disable ipv6 on the internal lan and leave everything on ipv4. Zero migration, zero risk, zero training needed.

Why do so many companies only go half assed into cloud? Because they don’t get it.

Powershell? Only half, a third even, of the admins truly get it.

    I could go on.

    Succes is build on simplicity.

  • Where I live (NL, EU) there are several charging stations (+20 spots) within a 10 mile radius. Every neighborhood has like 5-10 parking spots with a charger. Around 10-15% of the residential housing have their own high-power charging outlet. Office buildings have around the same percentage (10-15%) of their parking lot converted to charging parking spots. Even parking lots in cities come with that same percentage of charging stations these days.

Next to that around 30% of all housing is equipped with solar panels. New office buildings and factories all have giant solar arrays on their roofs. No exceptions.

In the EU the biggest problem is not willingness or effort. The biggest problem is reality. You can’t connect that all to a power grid designed in the 60s. Energy infrastructure is hard, big and slow to build. Our grid is full. We are building like mad men but it just isn’t realisable in a short time. Especially since all of the EU is building a new grid at the same time… Building (nuclear) power plants, wind mills, conversion stations, high power grid cables all takes a lot of time.

But, mobility in the EU is starting to become too expensive for the median income. Here a litre of ron95 gasoline is around 2 euros. The purchase of new cars are taxed to insanity here in NL. Around 50% of the price is tax. A new electric vehicle with acceptable range is somewhere around 50-60k (ionic, ev5/6)

Electric vehicles had all sorts of tax exemptions. That’s changing. Soon they’re also taxes to the fullest.

Alas, everyone who doesn’t have a job which provides a car does what I do: drive that old piece of garbage till it really falls apart.

And I think that are the 2 main reasons for the laxer rules on ice vehicles. Reality regarding the needed infrastructure and cost to the public. Everything has become so much more expensive the last 4 years.
