  • So a lot of people will explain it with many very interesting psychological and sociological theories on discrimination and shits But to summarize it all :

    they are really fucking dumb

They can’t understand two thirds of the shits happening so when faced with something new they simplify it by interpreting it as close to the closest thing they understand. Except they are fucking dumb so the closest thing they understand is miles away from the thing they are discovering. Therefore when they encounter autism, they understand it like the closest thing they actually know, which is children or more likely stupid and they talk to children like they are dumb.

Now the other things that lead them to that is that despite being world class idiot their job is to evaluate people so considering they don’t understand most things they require even more simplification.

TL;DR : tell them you know damn well they’re not supposed to require an eval for autist so you’re gonna sue them, should shut them the fuck up

  • and if it get worsewhat do you do ? Yep you go to the doctor. I’ve never said self diagnosis is a devilish act, it is extremely useful to know wether an assessment could be interesting. Now I’d go further about self medicating a flue. Generally people will call that : “a cold”. A generic, non-scientific term. By treating the fever you are not treating the flu but the symptoms, you don’t actually know wether it’s the flu. Lastly, if the “flu” don’t go away, you are going to need a more specific treatment, and therefore go to the doctor because the treatment you need is very specific to the disease you actually have. Same applies for any kind of autism, if you need specific care, technique to manage your emotions or things like that, you are going to need to know what is your actual diagnosis and a doctor expertise to help you in finding the right strategies.

  • The problem I have with self diagnosis is that it is only mostly right. Indeed you are the best to realise something is different with you. However knowing exactly what it is is a whole new level. Thing is you may be right in detecting something is wrong, but self-diagnose with something similar but different than what you have. And that can impact the solution and help you will look for.

I can very easily self diagnose my flu, i know when I likely have a flu. Though I still go to the doctor because it could be something different like a bronchitis

  • I think there are similar stuffs with mental illness : in a media they serve to further the character’s progression. In reality those are often more disability aither because they are disabilities at their core or because they make you not fit with the crowds who react awfully to that.

In a book or a movie, the struggle a character face, even if well depicted, serve his progression. They also are often a Chekov’s gun, furthering the plot. While in reality it’s just a thing you have to deal with on a daily basis. It’s true with autism but also with so much other stuff. Think depression, depicted a lot, much better than autism, and most depressed character end up cured at the end of the story thanks to their accomplishment. Except it doesn’t work like that, you can very damn well save lives and remain depressed. Showing that would be realistic but wouldn’t make sense story wise and the narration would feel incomplete.
