This is crazy timing because I just had the mirror experience while trying to find a scanner app for an android phone I wanted to use around the house as a smart home remote. The play store was a dumpster fire. I bought the Quick Scan app (Dev is iSolid) on iOS and was willing to pay good money for one on the Android phone too, but every single scanner app on Android had ridiculous subscriptions. A few were $20 a month!
I happily paid for this. I use it to automatically export to my paperless consume folder on my nas. I have a widget on my home screen that brings me straight into a scan and auto exports after. It’s fast, clean and works really well.
Nobara was my first attempt at leaving windows for good and it was great until it wasn’t. I went a few months without ever booting windows but started having issues when I bought a new gpu. I went from Nvidia to AMD and everything I read online said you just install the AMD gpu, nothing else needed to be done. Every game I tried to play and would crash within 20 minutes every single time. I eventually got so frustrated that I just booted windows, ran DDU, downloaded adrenaline and I was up and running. After I got settled in, I nuked nobara and installed bazzite and haven’t had a single issue since.
My pc only has 1 nvme slot so I used an $18 sabrent pcie to nvme adapter to add another nvme and keep my Linux and windows separated. Just wanted to put this out there in case you want an easier way to switch between OSs.
I’m not expert but for the sake of getting some discussion going:
Don’t open ports on your router to expose services to the open internet.
Use a vpn when torrenting and make sure your torrent client is set to only use the vpn’s network adapter. This way, if your vpn drops out the torrent client can’t reach the internet.
I keep everything local and use Tailscale to access things while I’m away from home.
I hate to break it to you but it’s not just the budget dells that have build quality issues. I just received a $5k precision that was delivered with fucked up bios settings, non working thunderbolt ports and a trackpad stuck in the down position. I love the laptop but god damn that was frustrating.
My brother and I started playing Grounded together as a way to just chill and catch up throughout the week. We were shocked with how much content was actually in the game. It’s like Valheim mixed with Honey I Shrunk The Kids, 4 player online coop, base building, survival. It has a storyline so there’s always a sense of direction and it syncs the world with everyone regardless of who plays so it’s easy to just come and go. I could definitely see a group of 10 year olds getting sucked into this.
Since you mentioned high cpu temps, do you have a water cooler? It’s possible that the pump is running at a reduced speed or not at all. If it was functioning fine on windows that leads me to believe that it’s not hardware related like some are suggesting.
Auto export is locked behind the ultra subscription at $3/mo or $30/year. I’m not against subscriptions or anything, I just don’t think the feature is worth that price. I don’t want their cloud storage and whatever else comes with the ultra tier.
