  • I’ve never been a fan of wrestling but I loved Andre. From everything I’ve seen and heard, he was the nicest guy you could hope to meet. There are some great stories about him out there too. There’s video of Arnold Schwarzenegger talking about a time when he and Andre were arguing over who would pay the check at a restaurant and Andre literally picked Arnold up and put him on a piece of furniture. And another similar occasion with Andre and Wilt Chamberlain. The Cary Elwes book, As You Wish, about the making of The Princess Bride has a lot of stories about Andre from the cast too. It’s well worth the read if you’re a fan of the movie.

  • Oh look, another party that doesn’t run candidates for any state or local offices but wants to run a candidate for the highest office in the land. An election they cannot hope to actually win, and the only actual effect their run will have is to increase the chance that a fascist could come to power in the USA. Not surprised that the Post would run a story with this headline, but I was surprised to see this honest passage.

The PSL, has raised more than $235,000 and promises voters a radically twisted vision for America, which includes seizing the 100 largest American corporations and turning them into public property and ending all US aid to Israel. The group does not release membership numbers but claims to have “an organized presence in over 100 cities and towns” in the United States.

The party is not affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America, the largest socialist organization in the United States which has elected multiple members to Congress and boasts more than 77,000 faithful.

OP, if you’re really a socialist as your name claims, perhaps you should support the DSA which actually walks the walk and has earned some respect as well as national level offices. Has the Green party ever won an election for Senate or the House in DC? What Senate or House candidates are they running this November?

  • Yep, here to convince us that Stein isn’t still just one of Putin’s useful idiots trying to get us a 2nd Trump administration like she did in 2016. And it wasn’t just Wisconsin that she handed to Trump in 2016.

Here are the Stein votes from 2016 vs Trump’s margin of victory in those states.

    Michigan: 51,463/10,704

    Pennsylvania: 49,678/46,765

    Wisconsin: 31,006/22,177

Without Stein on the ballots in those states, there would have been no Trump administration.

    Also, from OP’s article:

There are signs in some swing states, including Wisconsin, that those behind third-party candidates are trying to affect the outcome of the presidential race by using deceptive means — and in most cases in ways that would benefit Trump. Their aim is to to offer left-leaning, third-party alternatives who could siphon off a few thousand protest votes.

Everyone, including Stein, knows Putin helped her last time, whether she knew it then or not. She must realize he’s helping her again and she knows what the likely result is. She knows she can’t win the presidency, all she can do is help Trump win.

  • In Florida convicted felons may not vote until their sentences have been served and they have paid all outstanding fines and restitution.

Okay, that is just not true. I don’t understand how Former Florida appeals court judge Philip Padovano doesn’t get that. Trump is clearly able to vote now under Florida law.

    The law states that:

A felony conviction in Florida for murder or a sexual offense makes a person ineligible to vote in Florida unless and until the person’s right to vote is restored by the State Clemency Board.

For any other felony conviction in Florida, a person is eligible to register and vote if the person has completed all terms of his or her sentence. Completion of the sentence means: Prison or jail time; Parole, probation, or other forms of supervision; and Payment of the total amount of all fines, fees, costs, and restitution ordered as part of the felony sentence.

On the surface, that sounds like Trump shouldn’t be allowed to vote, but note that this first section refers to convictions in Florida. The law goes on to state that:

    >A felony conviction in another state makes a person ineligible to vote in Florida only if the conviction would make the person ineligible to vote in the state where the person was convicted.

He was convicted in New York. Here is the pertinent law in New York:

A new law passed in 2021, restores the right to vote for a person convicted of a felony upon release from incarceration, regardless of if they are on parole or have a term of post-release supervision. If a convicted felon is not incarcerated, they are eligible to register to vote.

Since he is not incarcerated in NY, he is eligible to vote in NY and therefore eligible to vote in FL. Sad to say, but it’s true. Don’t waste your time on this one, there’s plenty of real stuff to go after him for.

  • Look who’s objecting.

Earlier this year, multiple lawmakers, including Sen. Chris Van Hollen [D] of Maryland, planned to object to the sale.

Ah, and Biden is slow walking the sale…

The items are intended to maintain and build Israel’s overall long-term defensive capability, and most of the items will be delivered in installments over the course of several years, a State Department official told CBS News. The F-15s, for example, will be manufactured by Boeing and take at least a decade to deliver in full, the official said.

    Oh, this is interesting too.

The Biden administration has had to balance its continued support for Israel with a growing number of calls from lawmakers and the U.S. public to curb military support there due to the high number of civilian deaths in Gaza. It has curbed one delivery of 2,000-pound weapons amid continued airstrikes by Israel in densely populated civilian areas in Gaza.

…the U.S. had been withholding weapons deliveries for Israel’s war effort in Gaza…

On June 23, Netanyahu told his Cabinet that there had been a “dramatic drop” in U.S. weapons about four months prior, without specifying which weapons. Those comments came just days after he released a video in English claiming there had been weeks of unsuccessful pleas with American officials to speed up deliveries.

Curse Biden for not magically making Netanyahu stop being a murderous asshole. You know that there are limits to what the American President can do on his own, without the full support of his legislature, about the homicidal activities of a foreign ruler? But by all means, keep attacking the Democrats as if a 2nd Trump administration would be an improvement. What did Trump say about Israel/Gaza? Oh that’s right, Israel should “finish what they started” and “get it over with fast”.
