  • Thank you! You just saved me, hydration-wise.

I finally got up the motivation to use the nice water bottle I have (I needed to wash it and so it was just sitting on my bedside table for like 2 weeks and I’ve been thirsty and just sipping from tiny cups). Had gone out to fill it up, put it on the counter, went into the bathroom and promptly forgot it existed. Read your post, laughed to myself about how I’m the same way, and then nearly went back to bed without my water bottle. Literally the only reason I remembered it at all is thanks to you.

Hate the executive dysfunction shit. When I went of my psych I had no idea what was wrong with me and my main complaint was that I could be really thirsty and unable to make myself drink the water I wanted :(

  • I think it’s also partially about taking something that can be associated with … rednecks/middle America/conservatives I guess, and using it as a vehicle to try to reset people’s initial reactions against stuff that would be in their interest (unions for example). It doesn’t seem like it’s a concerted effort to actually reach that group, so right now it’s leftist memes for leftists but the potential for puncturing someone’s insular bubble Via familiar substrate for the message has interesting potential!

  • From converting vegetarians, I go nuts during the “shaka ka ka ka ka ka ka … shaka ka ka ka… sha kawwww”. I’m right there with you vocalizing to our awesome computer music.

I also had the modem dialing up sound as my ring tone for a while in college … because it made me happy. It really is so different when we WANT to have our systems overwhelmed and swim in the shutdown. Thanks for sharing your links, was a nice surprise when I wasn’t necessarily expecting IM :D

(You may also like Holly Herndon and BT, if you don’t already listen to them)

  • I’ve been car free since I moved to NYC around 4 years ago and I love it. I do wish car rentals were easier for those odd cases where you need to move something big but don’t want a U-Haul, but I love just being walking distance from everything I need. My whole world fits within about two long city blocks.

If I weren’t in the city (and specifically this city - Boston is not as friendly to car free folks) it would be a lot more difficult. I especially don’t know how people with disabilities manage because public transit here is, for me, not super disability friendly.
