Yeah, my father in law made some comment about “this debate is so much better than the last one” and I’m like…yeah, the word salad is replaced with Coherent English lies, but that’s not a great step up.

I liked “we don’t need Obamacare because we have legislation protecting people with preexisting conditions”
Yeah, that would be Obamacare.
Midwestern here.
I think the fact that EVERY Midwesterner mutually shits on Ohio at any opportunity kiiiiinda makes a case that they’re Midwest also.
There are other states MORE deserving of the shit-talk, but it’s not personal and visceral the way every other Midwestern state hates Ohio.
This definitely seems like the more likely explanation. There certainly is a mental/emotional hell you go through in academia, but with this y-axis being specifically about psychiatric medication… all I’m seeing is that grad students like/need Adderall.
The vast majority of the time, nepotism refers to a patent giving their children special privileges due to the power the parent has.
The word itself comes from from the Italian word for “nephew”, because of a trend of “nephews” of popes getting special privileges (often, these were the popes’ illegitimate sons).

The first vim command anybody should memorize. Quit without saving.
I want something that’s basically like Windows 98.
Linux Mint (Cinnamon edition) and Kubuntu are, in my opinion, the two most windows-looking distros out of the box. They use the Cinnamon and KDE desktop environment respectively, you can do a little googling to see if those look like you expect your desktop to work.
Does everyone just always know what they’re doing at all times?
Fuck no, lol. I’ve done more stupid shit on Linux than windows would ever let me get away with. But Linux people tend to be a little more “tinkerers” than other computer users. Not everyone by any means, it’s really more of the other way around: if you want to tinker with your computer, Linux gives the most freedom to do so. And when you tinker enough and make enough mistakes learning experiences, you tend to pick up some knowledge along the journey.
But a lot of the modern distros are very plug-and-play, to where it’s not necessary to be a tinkerer to get going on Linux anymore.
This works for some things, but it’s like the parable of the boiled toad: you need to push on the edges of truth, not come out guns blazing with “post-birth abortions”, “Immigrants eating family pets”, and “Democrats wanted Roe v Wade overturned also”
The lore is that the saarlac actually keeps you alive while digesting you. ~~Like, it puts roots in that act as life support so it has a constant source of protein or whatever. ~~ eh, that last but might not be accurate but there is some kind of enzyme in their stomach that keeps you alive? Whatever.
Of course not. Zuckerberg is 13 years younger and actively trains MMA. Elon is fat, spends all day tweeting bullshit, and is probably addicted to ketamine.
Zuck legitimately might kill Elon on accident if that fight happened. (But fuck em both)
Fractals are not necessarily self repeating, they just contain detail at arbitrarily small scales.
Coastlines are indeed fractals, and a similar argument could be made for any border defined by natural phenomena (so like, not the long straight US/Canada border).
“You guys are freaked out because I’m moving quickly and you don’t have visibility into my own internal process, that’s all.”
Uh, yeah?! Maybe add on “and you refuse to see why that’s a problem”
If the government wanted that, they’d have been making steps towards that goal over the last several years. Instead, they’re thwarting any attempts at a path to citizenship for the people already doing these jobs and actively contributing to our economy.
I’m dealing with the legal immigration system right now. Your claim that we can “easily” replace anybody with more immigrant is laughable. It’s like a 4 year waitlist right now.
How much do you know about the legal immigration process? Because it is barely functional and hanging on by a thread right now.
Alaska, Canada, Russia, a few on the -stans.
This is the longest straight-line all-water route on earth.
There was a moment where Vance was hammering the word “choice” about like daycare costs or something and I really wanted Walz to say “so NOW you care about choice?”
