I know what it is, I’m questioning the origins since Jesus spoke sense and truth and was not of the superficial, ritualistic people (nobody intelligent is). It’s basically a blood rite, lol.

Jesus talked about morals and duties, and used allegories (Sermon of the Mount). For anyone who can read, this is very noticeably bizarre to say the least, but maybe it just meant “you gotta really walk in my shoes”. Relax.
Real talk: Either this is some pagan ritual shit added later on by the Romans (like the polytheistic [Trinitarian] nature of Christianity and everything Paul said) or it was never meant to be taken even remotely literally. I’m going with the first one.

YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the scariest shit you can think of?2·20 hours agoI don’t know if this is a question that can be answered, and certainly not a question I have an answer to (or at least not a satisfactory one besides “everything comes from the Creator”, like, duh, ofc). I can tell you, from personal experience, that consciousness is not the mind, which is shaped by experience and ideology, but is behind it. A consciousness watching a mind watching a body, that’s the human experience. Recent studies (with some experimental backing!) talk about ‘tubules’ in the structure of the neurons and quantum physics which, to me, sound promising, if you’re interested (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orchestrated_objective_reduction). And that’s all the insight I can provide on the matter, sorry! 😅
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the scariest shit you can think of?1·20 hours agoIt’s both a tool for self restraint and social eudaimonia (especially for those who cannot conceive being righteous out of personal pride and self respect), and a way to make peace with death. 👍
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What media archetypes POVs do you wish to see explored in a fully fleshed story?1·20 hours agoNo, it’s way more than that, just inspired by many things, some of them mostly aesthetically so. The Bene Gesserit plant myths but they themselves are just space witch nuns who have largely forgotten their origins, but they know there’s such a thing as “knowing the unknowable” and pursue the creation of the Kwizath Haderach, simply because they can see there’s something “behind the veil” they’re just simply ill-equipped to handle the knowledge and “know” a ‘male Bene Gesserit’ could handle it.
But it all basically puts you in the shoes of Paul, and later on Leto II, both actual prophets who can see peek/clearly see into the future (although, because the idea of seeing into the future sorta clashes against the idea of free will, it’s not 100% established on what is fixed and what isn’t, but it’s not super necessary) and it’s a character study on how one could handle such information. Paul, besides not being the most physical person, is actually as quick as a computer, extremely knowledgeable and of good character but, because he’s still just a person, he cannot handle it. His son, Leto II, is more than human, and can do something positive with it. It’s mostly a Solomon to Jesus (not the historical one but Christian “godly” one) allegorical story, and Dune will feel very familiar to anyone who has read Ecclesiastes, a character study and a philosophical deep dive (also, a little essay on ecology). The whole series is great, but I’d say Dune to God Emperor of Dune (yes, Dune inspired not just Star Wars, albeit superficially, but WH40K as well) are mandatory readings, lol.
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the scariest shit you can think of?3·1 day agoThe silver lining to this is that at least more and more people can see it for what it is, and the possibility for change increases, right? Right?!
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the scariest shit you can think of?4·1 day agoMaybe (I believe so, ofc, peep the username 😅), but you can’t “know” (and yes, I understand epistemologically “objective truths” are at least somewhat unreachable but if I don’t hold the apple whilst on Earth it will inevitably fall), you just have to take it on faith.
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the scariest shit you can think of?3·1 day agoHow would a society of immortal beings work, though, considering the already existing inequalities and rampant amoral antisocial nature of those currently in power? We kinda just have to make peace with death, right? I’m religious, and what I’m gonna say here might sound a tad heretical, but one life does feel like “enough” (of a gift, if you’re religious) and I don’t see a working alternative… but perhaps I’m not creative enough? 🤷
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What media archetypes POVs do you wish to see explored in a fully fleshed story?3·1 day agoI want more Dune, and by that I mean I wanna see more “prophet assaulted by their visions and without a hopeful monotheistic background (in which God fills in for the lack of competence and faith in it keeps you going)/the potentially inhuman wisdom required to deal with them and do something positive with them”. The problem is that you don’t just have to be a competent writer to create something like that, but you also have to be cultured, existentialist/philosophical and genuinely bright, and that reduces the potential pool of writers to like 6 people worldwide at any given time. 😔🤷
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a process where you prefer the old way of doing things instead of how it's done now?2·1 day agoIt’s still done this way in many communities but the progression of courtship to the families meeting up and giving their approval to marriage to sex to children. I know people will often have sex right after courtship but it’s the fact that the other steps still have to be followed and the acknowledgement that this is not just for hedonistic pursuits but for deeper connections and purposes that’s sorely missing nowadays (particularly in the West, ofc).
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the scariest shit you can think of?4·1 day agoI mean, God judging that I was a “problematic child” and overall a bad person and sending me to Hell, I guess. 🙃
But, without talking about my religious beliefs, I’m afraid of doing something awful that I cannot fix or take back, in a moment of heightened emotion and lack of foresight, and hating myself forever for it. It’s the reason I stopped getting into random fights, after all. In the end, when you die, you die, there’s no more time for regrets, but if you kill then you have to live with yourself being a murderer, right? And I’m too self-aware to ignore it, and to see that if I ever started taking drugs to turn my brain and heart off I evidently have a problem and remembering the source of that problem would put me back to square one…
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•how far out of your way do you go to help wild animals each day on average?7·1 day agoI avoid killing spiders? I live in the city, there aren’t many wild animals here. Back when I lived in Marseille, the only ones were dirty rats and I really have close to zero empathy for them, I’m sorry.
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•On a scale of 0 to 10, how good are you at technology?2·2 days agoI can pirate games, movies and books, can use SciHub to download articles behind paywalls, and have installed ReVanced on my phone. 🤷
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a time you tried something different and it worked out?8·2 days agoYou find out that regardless of how shitty you are, they need bodies so, as long as you’re not a ‘troublemaker’ and you just nod and keep your mouth shut, they’ll either encourage you to get better or tolerate you and find something less technical for you to do, lol. I got along well with many of my higher ups in basic and I pretty much begged them to send me to a ‘soft’ regiment, so I ended up a sapeur de combat (combat engineer?) in 1REG, and then I begged/convinced the captain to allow me to go full POG (honestly, you don’t want a myopic and clumsy soldier watching your back, lol) and halfway through the 3rd year I became a secretary. 👍
Also, that people who come from happy families and aren’t desperate/broken/suicidal enough for basic to the first year or so to feel like an improvement in their lives have weekly mental breakdowns and quit/run away very easily. See, there’s a silver lining to everything! 😅
Nobody under the age of 40 cares about Han Solo, lol.
I’m rarely silenced here (5 removed comments in over 1000?) and my ideology is pretty much the opposite of the average Lemming. I agree with you that the best way to go about discussions online is to block someone you find offensive but, if you don’t mind me asking, what exactly are you posting that’s getting nuked on the regular?
