Republican lawmakers that used the phrase “unborn human being” to describe the Arizona Abortion Access Act in a voter information pamphlet are pushing back on a lawsuit accusing them of unlawful partisanship, defending the phrase as impartial and legally accurate.

    Here’s the quote:

    Current state law prohibits a physician from performing an abortion if the probable gestational age of the unborn human being is more than 15 weeks, except when a pregnant woman’s medical condition necessitates an immediate abortion to avert the pregnant woman’s death or for which a delay creates a serious risk of substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function.

    IMO the phrasing implies that there is a living person with rights to protect in any abortion, and I do think that is on purpose to manipulate voters. At the same time, it is “technically” true in a way, so I think it’s unlikely that they will convince the court to change it.
