    So, were they just hired guns and there’s some other mastermind behind this or is there some other reason why Colombian criminals would care about a politician in Ecuador, regardless of what their political stances were?

      Weird how it was also Colombians who assassinated the Haiti president. Villavicencio denounced government involved with organized crime according the the article

        It could mean that this is just a general hit squad criminal group that one hires for this sort of thing. Or there may be a larger criminal network across multiple countries involved in this.

      My guess is they’re cartel, and their boss didn’t like the idea of someone shutting down their trade routes.

      This guy was pushing legislation to stop oil drilling. These guns were probably hired by oil companies or their investors.
