For those seeing “Sydney Mardi Gras” yes, this is about Australia. In the article, NSW stands for New South Wales, the largest police force. The Sydney MG parade also seems to be rolled up with their Pride parades (my interpretation with a bit of google)

The headline is making mention of the grievances the organizers have aired with the police regarding strip searches and drug dogs during these events. (I’m guessing strip searches being a point of contention in the transgender community especially, but used yo harass partygoers in general).

They mention that police presence is mandatory (as with all large gatherings) but still insist they do not want nsw present due to the violent nature of the police presence during the original (pride) marches in the area.

Strip searches are particularly contentious in NSW after young girls amongst others were strip searched. Between the strip searches, dogs, under covers, and generally heavy handed police presence at every party/festival/gig, NSW feels like it’s heading towards becoming a police state. Irks me whenever I see NSW police getting extra funding while our teachers, public transport workers, healthcare professionals, etc, are all struggling to get any pay rise.
