One thing I missed during the reddit era was user avatars. I always found it much easier to recognize posters this way. The lack of avatars next to a post made that whole era feel faceless. I’m glad avatars are included in profiles, and I think they should be brought back into the main UI.
I currently use Connect on Android, which puts a small (10x10px approx) avatar next to names. It would be cool to have an option to enlarge this, but it seems like a step forward.
Reddit’s big fancy avatars were part of its monetisation efforts and I’m happy to go back to upload an image once I’ve dusted my old files off.
However, there are plenty of free avatar generators out there you can use if you want one.
Users that have a profile icon generally appear with that icon on the web UI. Of course it is not as easy as building your own Snoo on Reddit, but it works fine for me in both the web ui and MLem
I’m using the web ui now. I think it hits a good balance of not too big, not too small.
I’m using Connect for Lemmy right now. I got the newest update from yesterday. I don’t see anyones profile pics…
Not everyone has one. They’re emoji sized by people’s names. It may also be instance based… I’m not sure how it all works yet.
Instance based isn’t something I knew would apply. I have an avatar setup which shows up desktop. But not here. If you have one, I don’t see it either. Weird.
Weird. Have you updated
Edit- I’m noticing they don’t always show, and I’m not sure what the consistency is.
Really? One thing I missed during the reddit era was no avatars. They weren’t a thing until new reddit. Regular reddit never got them, and I liked it that way.
