In 2021, KCPD detective Eric DeValkenaere was convicted in the fatal shooting of Cameron Lamb. It was the first time a Kansas City police officer was found guilty in the killing of a Black man.

  • In a motion filed Wednesday at the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, attorneys for Eric DeValkenaere say he is appealing his conviction to the Missouri Supreme Court.

DeValkenaere, who is white, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in the 2019 shooting death of Cameron Lamb, a 26-year-old Black man. In a rare move, Judge J. Dale Youngs granted a request allowing DeValkenaere to remain free for nearly two years during his appeal, from November 2021 until his appeal was decided this week.

Yeah, they freed him after conviction during the entire lengthy appeals process to get to this point, and now he’s appealing again - I’m waiting for the followup article saying they put a bracelet on his ankle (if that) and sent him home.
