Haven’t seen a post here but it may just be my new instance missing a post.
Been waiting a few years to replace my iPhone 12 Pro but each year has not been too compelling it’s own. I’m already 95% sure I’ll be getting whatever phone they announce this year.
Tho if they do upgrade to USB-C (which I assume they will), I might wait for some durability tests on the port to come out. I have a shit ton of lightning connectors and am used to it, so not switching isn’t much of a problem but could be worth not switching to USB-C if it’s more likely to break than the tried and true king of durability
[clarification] I’m saying the port is the king of durability, not the cable/connector/plug
After having a child’s iPad start to fail charging, I welcome our new USB-C overlords. I’ve never had any USB-C device have problems with the ports.
Id much rather replace cables twice as often than replace the devices with the same frequency.
Out of curiosity, did you try cleaning the port? Sometimes they do get gummed up.
I’ve had a phone in my past where the micro usb port disconnected so I don’t mean to imply it’s user error or anything, just trying to be helpful. .
Oh my god. My USB-C connected external drives can barely keep connected. It’s infuriating waking my Mac up to dozens and dozens of “improperly ejected” messages.
USB-C was specifically designed to have a durable port AFAIK
I’ve never had any issues with it and I have used USB-C devices for years
I have had USB-C phones, battery packs and other devices since 2015. Not a single port or cable has failed me so far.
Worrying about the durability of USB-C 7 years later seems unwarranted. But I can see wanting to use up your lighting cable subscription before moving on.
I told my partner, just get the phone ASAP when you can, it’s the only non usb thing we have left.
Same, but mini.
Maybe I’ll get a battery upgrade, or a 13 mini, or a 15 depending on size.
I just switched everything to MagSafe chargers and I love it. No plugs.
Wish it supported carplay over magsafe
I have a 12 myself. Actually considering a 14 Pro Max refurbished from eBay, but my only hold out is I’d rather have a USB-C port. I can’t tell you how often my pocket gunk gets into that lightning port. I often see the worst of it in my car based on where I put my phone, the connection gets super sensitive and just moving the phone disconnects CarPlay often. I have the tools to clean the port out but it never seems to take care of the problem fully…
I do think they’re only introducing the USB C in only the most expensive phones. But it might still be worth it if they’ve not throttled the USBC speeds and charging capabilities to lock it down to only their cables.
aren’t there reports apple is slowing down the usb C depending on the model?
I don’t think I’ve transfered data to my phone via wire in the better part of a decade
One person’s use case is not another person’s use case. There should be no reason for apple to artificially slow down a standard tool, for sales purposes.
https://www.macworld.com/article/1384522/iphone-15-usb-c-port-data-transfer-speeds.html they don’t want to show lightning is slower it seems. If that’s the reasonin?
They can’t slow down the charging rate unless they want to get in trouble with the EU. If they’re planning to limit the data transfer rate for, say, non-Pro iPhones, that would suck, but then again all iPhones to date have been USB 2.0 at best, and USB Type-C is just the connector and doesn’t say anything about data transfer rates anyway.
https://www.macworld.com/article/1384522/iphone-15-usb-c-port-data-transfer-speeds.html This is just one of many. It APPEARS they don’t want to show lightning is slower, but who really knows.
The logo reminds me of the opening of Foundation.
I’ve heard they will be 3D printing the titanium rails on the Pro line by utilizing a type of ground up titanium powder. Clever use in the invite.
Titanium ground by virgins of the highlands of sri lankan xtanium deposits, delivered by llama to the holy fires of mordor, then sintered into DRM positive elements. Can’t wait
I have not been able to allow myself to skip a single Foundation opening sequence. I’d really love to see it on a 4K OLED someday
As someone with a 4K OLED, it’s awesome. I always watch it.
The sound, however, could use some work in my opinion.
It’s starting, shushhhh!
Pass the popcorn!
