Ohhh yes! Look, I’m not an EV enthusiast but this car might change my mind. I love the way it looks from every angle. Just needs a trapper keeper background to complete the look.

If people considered those sorts of things when buying a sports car they wouldn’t buy sports cars.

It looks cool. It probably goes like stink. Hopefully it handles well. That’s all a sports car needs.

Look, it’s a car I would build in NFS Underground/2!

(body kit, tiny mirrors for aerodynamics, roof scoop, massive hideous wing for style points, a 5-layer livery, and random sponsor stickers plastered in every conceivable area; just needs flashing underglow, suicide doors, a trunk audio package, and spinners for that chef’s kiss)

(I’ve now ruined rally vehicles for everyone)

This is a Cybertruck getting owned by a 180hp mid 90s Corvette.

Straight line speed doesn’t interest me much, plus with the crap breaks on it you can only do it so many times but that’s neither here nor there. My wife owns an EV as do many of my friends and they’re all like driving a couch. Comfortable, disconnected from the road, couches.

A real sports car you can feel the road, the tires weight up, your rear end communicates the stability through the turn. I have yet to drive a single EV that can do any of that. McLaren 650s I drove was the top of the pile for me, but my Corvette is pretty good too.

Put the Cybertruck isn’t great as an EV or a truck. Rivian makes some pretty sick EVs, as does Porsche.

And as for the bajillion miles, the record for an EV in a 24 hour race was made this year at about 700 miles and they had to have three sets of batteries and swap them out while the other two charged. Miatas made it 1200 miles on average for comparison. So I question the distance claim.

Solid state batteries are supposed to help a ton and I’m excited for them but the current battery tech energy density and charge rate isn’t great.

My sarcasm might not have translated well, but “couch” is correct. Even my '86 Crown Vic that drove like a boat felt more sporty than any EV I’ve been in.

That being said, I crave the R3X and imagine all of it’s “sportiness” will be… underwhelming.

I’ve never driven anything more sporty than a mid-'90s Porsche Boxer or Hyundai Elantra N. But the most connected I’ve ever felt to the road was in an early 2000s Miata.

Anyway, uhhh… Something something fuck you CyberTruck

Damnit, I missed the sarcasm… Signs of my age.

And Miatas are no joke, they feel amazing as much as people make fun of them. Flying Miata out of Grand Junction used to sell you a new Miata engine swapped and upgraded suspension and all.

Now another company does it but a Miata with an LS just seems like a lot of fun!

Why not make it a continuous production?

Perhaps models would get Miata like following, not the most expensive or popular cars, but a bit special/unique, and available to people.

I’m worried we’ll get the usual slew of changes for the production version. E.g. hood can’t be that low, pedestrian hazard, can’t have that sheet metal crease there, too expensive, pillars must be thicker for the roof to handle rollover events etc…

And no, I’m not saying safety is silly, I just hate it a tiny bit when designers tease us with stunning designs, designs they know can’t be progressed, as is, beyond a prototype stage.

Because you like that or don’t like that?

I thought the Ionic 5 N with fake shifts and engine noise was dumb at first until I realized just how useful it is on track. I’m learning how to race real cars (and sim) and have learned we pay attention to the gear we’re in by turn and where in that gear we’re at not the speed the vehicle is traveling. So there is a purpose.

The gear youre in and the speed youre going are roughly the same thing, only in a gas car you need to be at a specific point in the powerband to effectively exit the corner. EVs have no such limitation. Just pay attention to the speed.

Have you raced an EV? Because I don’t think you know what you’re talking about.

Your argument is it’s about the platform and it’s not. Learning a track and maintaining speed helps with a limit.

Everyone I’ve talked to, raced with, learned from had all agreed. That’s why they don’t race DCTs or CVTs in “auto” mode. The platform isn’t the issue, it’s the extra layer of control.

And you be fair you haven’t offered an argument other than to say I’m wrong which isn’t an argument but a disagreement. And when you didn’t provide anything in the form of an argument other than to say I’m wrong.

Lmao see? It’s a dumb fuckin logo! It’s so bad that it’s ranked up Google searches for what “KN” cars were.

But like I said that’s also probably part of the point. They wanted to disassociate from the stigma they had in prior decades. No better way to do that than give yourself a new logo so weird that nobody even realizes that it even spells “Kia”.
