Only because obsessing over any single strategy is foolish. Countering oil company propaganda is and will remain important, it just can’t be the sole focus, which is a fair criticism.
I think stopping them from being able to shill the propaganda in the first place is sort of the point here. They are allowed to just make ads that are 100% bullshit, but as long as it doesn’t mention a product, it’s technically not an “advertisement” subject to laws (can’t be hit for false advertising, for example).

Data? Eh. Most of that’s for sale, for cheap. It’s to fuck up infrastructure and waste tax dollars. Disinformation is in the same vein.
