We fear to make a bad, bad mistake when it turns out that they are more intelligent than we are.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you buy real Christmas trees or put up artificial ones?
1·3 months agoOf course only the real thing counts. It’s a superstition after all, isn’t it?
not sure i understand.
I mean you were looking down on her.
i’m poor btw, not rich
But what did you imagine about her wealth? Or her neediness?
Let’s turn it around: I am the one with the money now. What if I would offer you in public: I will give you another $90 if I can insult you afterwards, and then you agreed just because you needed the money so badly?
Maybe your next grocery shopping would be secured, but you would be humiliated, even before I started insulting you.
Back to your story: That’s why she tried to refuse the 5$. But then you forced it on her.
You were bragging.
Imagine if you find 90 million instead. You would become thoroughly unbearable.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you personally use upvotes/downvotes?
6·3 months agoJust like I’m feeling when I read it.
Good to know, worth reading it, fair, great thing…
Bad, wrong, unneccessary, nobody should read it, etc…
I expext to live forever, seriously. Just not in this body and not on this planet.
The best one is the show in the Restaurant At The End Of The Universe.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the story behind your username and avatar?
6·3 months agoI use names that may seem creative, but have no real meaning. Just made from spontaneous ideas.
I always have several of them (prepared or in use), because you never know when some ultra crazy mod turns up.
Is this actually a specific day somewhere?
All the online shops I know are having “black Friday” for some weeks and I don’t know (and don’t care) when it ends.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel sad about the fact that you'll probably die within 100 years (or less) and you (well... that's most of us tbh) can't do much to leave a significant positive legacy?
1·3 months agoNot really sad, because I know where I go afterwards.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think shapes someone’s views on monogamy and non-monogamy?
8·3 months agoWhat do you think shapes someone’s views
Role models.
Parents, other relatives, people that you considered important during your whole youth.
Usually you watch them how they live their life and what important decisions they make for their life, and then you decide (consciously or unconsciously) to copy some of it in your own life.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an unscientific opinion that you firmly hold?
8·4 months agoWhat is “now”? Seems you have more than one “nows” - or your variation makes no sense.
That machine decides before you in time, but after you in logic - otherwise it would not be a perfect prediction. So you can never decide for an empty track.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an unscientific opinion that you firmly hold?
33·4 months agoThat’s not a problem. It is just an exercise in reading. Two possibilities remain. In one, you kill 1 person. In the other, you kill 3 persons. (the empty track “exists” only if you do not use it).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who have moved away from your home town/area, what do you miss most?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How can you protect yourself from an abusive and violent sibling when you are financially dependent on your enabling parents?
2·4 months ago“No, you are not the most important one, so could you please remain silent and sit down in that corner over there.”
Greet him with this sentence every day when you first meet him. Preferably before he says anything.
But after that, do not give him any more mean words. Be the nicest kindest person you can imagine - overdoing it of course, but staying in that attitude.
I would invent the internet immediately in order to have more friends.
