LMAO. How about maybe paying their employees what they’re actually worth, and not evading taxes at every opportunity?

ShoeThrower@lemmy.zipto politics @lemmy.world•Trump deploys National Guard after second day of Los Angeles immigration protests | CNN4·19 days agoWhat you’re not understanding is that quashing a protest with force doesn’t make the anger just go away.
Thankfully I don’t think US authorities are anywhere close to PRC or Russia levels of force
The US is only trying to end Habeas Corpus, cracking down on free speech, personal and social freedoms, deploying military units in the streets, planting secret police in protests, and is currently kidnapping, disappearing, and sending people to foreign labor camps without trial while wearing masks and not giving any identifiable information… All while supporting and funding an ongoing internationally-recognized genocide.
Maybe you should be doing the reading…
ShoeThrower@lemmy.zipto politics @lemmy.world•Trump deploys National Guard after second day of Los Angeles immigration protests | CNN3·19 days agoPeople don’t just instantly forget the moment after an event ends, especially now.
The point I was making, is that bringing in cops and the national guard to beat protesters does not restore order to a crisis caused by ICE kidnapping people. It is an escalation that will very likely be matched if CA hasn’t totally forgotten their past. Which they haven’t.

ShoeThrower@lemmy.zipto politics @lemmy.world•Trump deploys National Guard after second day of Los Angeles immigration protests | CNN7·19 days agoI don’t mean literal nukes, but they would probably declare an emergency and send in substantial military force.
Edit: It’s crazy that we live in a time where I have to be specific about this.

ShoeThrower@lemmy.zipto politics @lemmy.world•Trump deploys National Guard after second day of Los Angeles immigration protests | CNN3·19 days agoOK, but put simply, police forces exist to enforce laws, military forces exist to kill enemies. This is why there are laws to prevent military forces from being deployed domestically. Their jobs are very different, and neither is truly qualified to do the job of the other.
ShoeThrower@lemmy.zipto politics @lemmy.world•Trump deploys National Guard after second day of Los Angeles immigration protests | CNN8·19 days agoOk?
The US Military didn’t decide to invade Iraq because they wanted to do good deeds, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t also aid some people along the way. The US Forces invaded over lies and caused mass death and destruction in exchange for political power and money. It wasn’t a war for a good cause, and lead to increased extremism in the Middle East.
Back to the original topic: I generally agree, but am only pessimistic about their numbers and ability to actually resist.
Such a glowing review from a journalist seems a bit out of place, considering Netanyahu’s crack down on the press.
No mention that the IDF set a record in 2023 for most journalists killed by a single state, then set a new record in 2024. Well over 200 journalists have now been killed in this most recent conflict alone. In 2023, of all journalists killed worldwide, 75% were killed by the IDF. In 2024, the IDF killed 70%.
Also no mention of the mass censorship campaign and the intimidation tactics being used against reporters.
EDIT: And bombed and destroyed the AP offices in Gaza.
