Sorbonne University has been deeply committed to the promotion and the development of open science for many years. According to its commitment to open research information, it has decided to discontinue its subscription to the Web of Science publication database and Clarivate bibliometric tools in 2024. By resolutely abandoning the use of proprietary bibliometric products, it is opening the way for open, free and participative tools.

The title makes it look like it’s a bad thing, should be something like “Sorbonne university goes full on open-source”

They said they would use OpenAlex instead, but cannot find a way to use the openalex.org website in any meaningful way. I can’t even search for an article in the database. Am I being thick?

Never mind, you need to click on “Filter”, select a particular filter and then input your search keywords. Not super intuitive, but it does work.

From the title, I thought that it was something negative, but it was a good thing, right? I have some friends in Sorbonne, and from what I heard, that university is great, and it provides a lot of resources for students, and even for students from other universities. My university also provides access to different resources, documents, research and so on, but I still use a lot of extra things, especially when I need to write something. Here is one resource https://edubirdie.com/examples/problem-solution-essays/ which helped me earlier this week to write my paper. It was maybe the second time I used something like this, but it was beneficial. So even if the university provides different sources, it’s still a good idea to look for something else.
