The resources of big business and the state were thrown behind the Nazisā campaign to achieve saturation coverage all over Germany. Brownshirts and SS patrolled and marched menacingly through the streets of cities and towns. A ācombination of terror, repression and propaganda was mobilized in every⦠community, large and small, across the landā.[1]:ā339āĀ Irene von Goetz wrote, āIn a decree issued on 17 February 1933, Gƶring ordered the Prussian police force to make unrestrained use of firearms in operations against political opponents (the so-calledĀ SchieĆerlass,Ā or shooting decree)ā.[4]
To ensure a Nazi majority in the vote, Nazi organisations also āmonitoredā the vote process. InĀ Prussia, 50,000 members of theĀ SS,Ā SAĀ andĀ Der StahlhelmĀ were ordered to monitor the votes as so-called deputy sheriffs or auxiliary police (Hilfspolizei) in another decree by acting Interior MinisterĀ Hermann Gƶring.[4]
