Many brands are stuck with aging 2024 stock as inventory surges past 3 million, but dealers still aren’t lowering prices meaningfully
Well, there’s the problem.
Also the fact word goes around and eventually people have realized that anything built by Stellantis is a piece of shit.
Stellantis is a conglomerate of the worlds’ most famously unreliable/shoddy/cheap brands. It’s a miracle they even exist.
I was taught that prices are determined by supply and demand. I was taught a lot of other nonsense too.
Cars have gotten so expensive, even used cars are expensive. I’ve kept my 2008 for 13 years because I can’t justify getting a new/used car at 30k never mind the 45-60k range the new cars are at
It’s honestly expensive enough that even a 6-10k repair on a car seems acceptable to me. I have a 15 year old car and recently replaced the AC system at 3k for a car that cost 11k when I bought it.
I’d love to replace it. The interior is wearing out, but like you noted cars are 40+K
Everyone I know that drives a new Dodge is like age 50+. Younger generations where reliability and cheap parts is where it’s at doesn’t bode well for the poor reputation the cars have online
I actually noticed this recently. They have some 2024 Dodge Chargers which MSRP for 100k listed for 60k. New car, 0km and it’s 40% off. I would love a non-tesla ev with 700hp but a 60k car is still expensive. Even if it’s 40% off
The practice of dealers cuts isn’t aging well. Especially newer dealerships with a bunch of frufu bling when you step in; do they think buyers are idiots? They know they’re paying for all that in the sticker price.
Same with all the garbage they bundle. No telling how much Stellantis, GMC and such spend on infotainment systems that feel infuriating and awful compared to a mounted iPad.
It fits the 2020s theme of “everything feels like a scam”
If you look at the days of supply on hand, Lexus, Toyota, and Honda have the lowest. No surprise there. The models they have in the 25 list are not the ones people would want the most, either.
If I was an automaker, I do believe I would try to figure out what Toyota and Honda were doing right with the majority of their lineups.
That has a lot more to do with JIT manufacturing. IOW, they didn’t overstock a bunch of cars that would sit on lots for 18 months after the newer version was released.
