Which is great, but it doesn’t solve the interoperability problem of being able to AirDrop files between someone’s iPhone/MacBook and your Linux/Android
Yeah, which is what I said. It’s great, but an alternative solution is an alternative solution. If someone is sharing a file to a group with Airdrop, you are not receiving it with localsend.
Linux when?
There’s the research project OpenDrop from a few years ago:
https://github.com/seemoo-lab/opendrop
(Disclaimer: I had a student job at SEEMOO and wrote my thesis there, though I was not involved with OpenDrop)
Upvote for disclaimers like this. We need more people who openly share potential conflicts of interest:)
Is this really a case of conflict of interest though?
It’s a potential one. Rather people flag anything that could be a conflict of interest, whether they think it is or not. Than be silent about it.
I just use localsend.

How so?
Localsend doesn’t support Airdrop.
Okay, but it is a good alternative to it that works cross platform without workarounds.
So yes it doesn’t solve that specific problem but it is a good alternative to AirDrop.
Hopefully this workaround is allowed to continue, but we’ll see.

Okidoke.
Same.
We can already rsync, why would we want airdrop?
Because these rules are not about you and me, but are important on a much larger scale.
How do you rsync between an android and iOS device? Is it as simple as airdrop?
No idea, never had an iOS device
It’s only a matter of time now
/edit: there seems to be This one however it is the „old“ standard reverse engineered. Should still work
There is also neardrop
But NearDrop is not compatible with airdrop, is it?
Oh true. Confused that one. It’s basically going the other way around.
